Job description

The Moritz lab at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle, WA is seeking a Research
Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team under the direction of Dr. Ulrike Kusebauch to
advance translational proteomics research in infectious disease systems biology. Our focus will
be 1) to develop new proteomics approaches to detect post-translational modifications and to
advance proteomics workflows to accelerate discovery, and 2) to apply these approaches in
areas of human cancer and infectious disease. Working within a highly collaborative,
multidisciplinary environment, we have access to the largest collections of comprehensive
proteomics data sets incorporated into an extensive set of Atlas's to support the knowledge of
proteins and their modifications. Our team collaborates with systems biologists, data scientists,
and domain experts in human and infectious disease at ISB and across the country. The
applicant will be highly experienced in post-translational modification analysis by mass
spectrometry, protein expression and purification, and comprehensive data analysis of
multiplexed datasets. This position offers opportunities for growth and career advancement.


Responsibilities include:


-Design, execute, and evaluate scientific experiments appropriate to project objectives
-Operate advanced mass-spectrometry instrumentation
-Process, analyze and interpret proteomics data
-Prepare research findings for scientific publications
-Contribute to new research proposals
-Contribute scientific expertise to various projects
-Participate in the intellectual life of ISB by attending and presenting at seminars and talks
-Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
-A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biotechnology, or related scientific discipline
- Track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications
-Extensive experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics
-Strong expertise in phospho-proteomic workflows, including phospho-peptide enrichment
and data analysis
-Expertise operating mass-spectrometry instrumentation
-Experience with mammalian and/or bacterial cell culture
-Experience in protein expression and purification
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, adapt to evolving
priorities, and manage multiple concurrent projects
-Excellent written communication and documentation skills


Preferred qualifications:
-Experience with plasmid cloning and molecular biology techniques
-Experience developing Python and R scripts for data analysis and workflow development


Salary: Expected annual salary between $90-95k DOE
