How much do ironworker helper jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 27, 2026, the average hourly pay for ironworker helper in the United States is $17.73, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.38 and $19.23 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

An ironworker helper typically does not earn $10,000 a month without significant experience or specialized skills. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often require advanced skills, certifications, or experience in fields like construction management, sales, or certain trades such as specialized welding or crane operation, which may not require a traditional degree but do need training and licensing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ironworker Helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ironworker Helper, you need basic construction knowledge, physical strength, and familiarity with safety protocols, typically gained through on-the-job training or a high school diploma. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential for supporting ironworkers and ensuring safe operations. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions make someone stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are vital for maintaining safety standards, supporting skilled tradespeople, and ensuring project efficiency on construction sites.

Do ironworkers make 6 figures?

Ironworker helpers typically do not earn six-figure salaries; their wages are usually lower than experienced ironworkers, who can earn higher wages with skills, certifications, and overtime. Most ironworker helpers earn between $30,000 and $50,000 annually, depending on location and experience.

What are some common challenges Ironworker Helpers face on the job, and how can they prepare for them?

Ironworker Helpers often encounter physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy materials, working at heights, and enduring various weather conditions. Adapting to these challenges requires maintaining good physical fitness, following strict safety protocols, and being comfortable with heights and working outdoors. Additionally, effective communication with the lead ironworkers and other crew members is essential for ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Being proactive in learning from experienced team members can also help new helpers build skills and confidence on the job.

An ironworker helper assists experienced ironworkers by preparing materials, handling tools, and supporting the installation of steel and iron structures. They often work on construction sites, follow safety protocols, and may need to operate basic equipment or use hand tools. This role provides support to ensure efficient and safe assembly of structural components.

What are Ironworker Helpers?

Ironworker Helpers assist ironworkers by performing tasks such as carrying materials, holding tools, cleaning work areas, and helping to position structural iron and steel during construction projects. They support the main ironworkers in assembling and installing metal frameworks for buildings, bridges, and other structures. Their work is essential for ensuring efficiency and safety on construction sites, and they often receive on-the-job training to learn the trade. Ironworker Helpers may also be responsible for setting up equipment, mixing concrete, and performing minor repairs as needed.

What is the highest salary for an ironworker?

The highest salaries for ironworker helpers can reach around $60,000 to $70,000 annually, especially for those with extensive experience, specialized skills, or working in high-demand regions. Factors such as certifications, union membership, and overtime can also influence earning potential.
