Job description

Job Overview:

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to enter EZARC's Apprenticeship Program to become certified Journeyman Ironworkers (JIW). The job description is as follows:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow EZARC apprenticeship program to become Journeyman Ironworker.
  • Learn how to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Assist with layout & erection of Structural steel; ex. iron or steel girders, columns, connections, tube steel, Unistrut and other construction materials to form buildings, canopies, staircases and other structures.
  • Work with Journeyman Ironworker (JIW) to verify material, measurements, and specifications prior to starting work.
  • Work alongside a crew to perform the erection of structural steel members.
  • Assist with rigging and hoisting of steel members, loading or unloading of construction materials.
  • Learn cutting, welding, fitting, bolting, fastening of steel members, install decking, "high and tight" work.
  • Work at heights using fall protection equipment.
  • Learn to utilize aerial lifts and other equipment, power tools, etc.
  • Maintain high standard of quality; learn to perform quality checks on own work and that of others.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety culture.
  • Learn to problem solve.
  • *Applicant will be trained and expected to pass AWS D1.1 and/or D1.3 welding certification test once deemed ready by supervisor.
  • **Applicant will be required to take min. OSHA 10 certification after probationary period. Employee will be expected to cover all fees for testing not passed.

Qualifications:

  • Previous education and/or experience in structural welding, manufacturing, or other related fields, preferred.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication & welding tools and procedures, preferred.
  • Familiarity with shop drawings, engineering blueprints and schematics, preferred.
  • Any OSHA/Safety certifications are a plus.
  • Reliable transportation to/from work.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening.

Tool Requirements:

  • Basic ironworking hand tools including spud crescent, sleeverbar, bull pin, sledgehammer, speed square, min 25' tape measure, hard spuds typ. size, bolt bags, scabbard, etc. must be supplied by the applicant.
  • Personal tool boxes, gang boxes, power tools, and fall protection harnesses permitted with waiver

Working Conditions:

  • Shift times vary based on season and available sunlight throughout the year (for example winter beginning 6:00 AM ending 4:30 PM and summer beginning 5:00 AM ending 3:30 PM)
  • Outdoors working environment; adverse weather and other adverse shop and field circumstances

Physical Requirements:

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift conducting physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • Will climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds (with appropriate training).
  • Will lift, push or pull objects up to 70 pounds
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • Ability to reach above shoulder heights and below the waist
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, or bend
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered and uneven areas
