Job description

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food & Nutrition is seeking a Clinical Dietitian at our Iowa River Landing location. This position uses Nutrition Care Process to assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling for outpatients. Teaches Master of Clinical Nutrition Students. Participates in multidisciplinary teams and develops nutritional components of care. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appreciate to the patient's status according to age. 

  • Provides quality patient care including nutrition screening, evaluation, assessment, treatment, and documentation of patient care plan appropriate for patient.
  • Educates students with on-the-job training.  Evaluates students.  Provides students with necessary support and assistance to ensure work is completed.
  • Assesses nutrition status and instructs/counsels patient on appropriate diet. 
  • Participate as part of the medical team concerning problems affecting patients' food habits and needs and participate in health team rounds concerning patient care. 
  • Assist in the implementation of studies and short-term projects. 
  • Performs special projects as assigned. 
  • Participates as active member of departmental/hospital committees. 
  • Review and analyze production, maintenance of standards, costs and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress of work and to control or reduce costs. 
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

  • Assists other dietitians as needed.

Clinical Dietitian I

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • A Master's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Candidates registered prior to January 01, 2024 a Bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Certifications

  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required. Applicant must be registered for at least one year per CMS guidelines.  
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required

Clinical Dietitian II

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 years of clinical nutrition experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated competency of patient care for adult renal patients in the outpatient setting.  
  • Experience in making enteral and parenteral recommendations and selecting appropriate formulas

Certifications

  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required. Applicant must be registered for at least one year per CMS guidelines.  
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required
