Job Description About Us: The Iowa Veterans Home is Iowa's largest long-term care facility. Our mission is dedicated to providing exceptional resident-centered care and the highest quality of life to Iowa's Veterans and their spouses. Position Overview: The Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, Iowa Veterans Home (IVH) is seeking a Psychiatrist to join our team for a full-time appointment.

The Psychiatrist provides medical and psychiatric care to residents at IVH by way of consultation and direction to the IVH medical staff. This position is also responsible for developing medical or psychiatric treatment plans for residents at IVH in collaboration with other providers. The Psychiatrist reviews treatment plans and provides consultation to the assigned mid-level provider and other disciplines at IVH.

This position is responsible for preparing psychiatric/forensic evaluations for submission to the courts in accordance with deadlines of the courts, prescribing medications and determining when resident referral is necessary, as well as completing medical reports documenting treatment services provided to residents. This position will also provide on-call, after-hours coverage as required by the needs of IVH. Additionally, this position will provide education, training and/or conference teaching in the areas of psychiatry and/or general medicine.
