Job description

The Safety Technician supports the Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental (OHS&E) programs at the Cayey site by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate records, and assisting in the implementation of safety initiatives. This role plays a key part in promoting a safe and compliant work environment aligned with OSHA, FDA, and environmental standards.


Key ResponsibilitiesCompliance & Safety Support
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910), FDA requirements, and company safety policies.

  • Support OHS rules and environmental policy compliance across the site.

  • Assist during regulatory inspections and provide required documentation.


Audits, Inspections & Programs
  • Coordinate and support safety audits and inspections.

  • Participate in Safety Committee activities.

  • Support Near-Miss reporting and daily safety program tracking.

  • Assist in accident investigations and root cause analysis.


Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain records of OHS programs, permits, logs, and regulatory documentation.

  • Act as custodian of OHS documentation, certifications, and compliance systems.

  • Enter and manage monthly data in the Non-Financial Reporting (NFR) system.

  • Maintain ISO 14001:2015 compliance calendar and EMS documentation.


Training & Communication
  • Assist in conducting safety orientations for new hires and contractors.

  • Coordinate OHS&E meetings, training sessions, and internal communications.

  • Support environmental and safety training initiatives across the site.


Environmental & EMS Support
  • Evaluate environmental aspects and impacts for new projects and activities.

  • Monitor Environmental Management System (EMS) objectives.

  • Investigate environmental non-conformities and support corrective actions.

  • Assist with contractor safety qualifications and environmental compliance.


Emergency Preparedness
  • Support emergency preparedness programs and ensure readiness of response teams.

  • Assist in maintaining emergency procedures and response capabilities.


QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical degree in a related field (Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or similar)

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in OHS, safety, or environmental roles


Certifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification (required)


Skills & Competencies
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA standards and safety regulations

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong attention to detail and multitasking ability


Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Ability to manage data and reporting systems


Language Requirements
  • Spanish: fluent (spoken and written)

  • English: good understanding

 
Pay Details: $15.00 to $22.00 per hour
