What will you do: In this role, you will support criminal investigations by gathering and analyzing intelligence, conducting background research, managing investigative records, and preparing reports and evidence for investigators and prosecutors.
You will utilize specialized databases and technology to identify leads, track cases, prepare photographic line-ups, and assist with case preparation for court. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, proficiency with investigative software and social media platforms, and the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively in support of law enforcement operations. The ideal candidate will have current or former law enforcement experience.
This is a part-time role. Work will mainly be completed during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. However, there may be various incidents, meetings, etc.
that may require you to work outside of normal business hours. The position will work 10-20 hours per week. Policing with a Purpose: Preserving the Sanctity of ALL Life Nurture and Protect Democracy Ensure Procedural Justice and Fundamental Fairness Spirit of Service Protect the Community from Harm Treat all individuals with Dignity and Respect-the ethical foundation of policing Examples of Duties Support Criminal Investigations Prepare and review preliminary reports, supplemental reports, sketches, diagrams, displays, arrest records, and other investigative documents.
Assist investigators with evidence collection and documentation to support active cases. Attend meetings with investigators to share criminal intelligence and identify additional leads or investigative opportunities. Research and Analyze Intelligence Conduct DCI and RMS queries to obtain criminal history, driver license information, and other data related to criminal suspects.
Interpret and analyze data, including pen register information and other investigative records. Analyze information from cell phones and other sources to identify suspects and support prosecution or apprehension efforts. Monitor social media platforms for criminal intelligence and investigative leads.
Leverage Technology and Digital Evidence Research RMS and other photographic databases to compile legally admissible photographic line-ups or present line-ups to witnesses. Assist in the execution of court orders and search warrants to obtain data from cellular phones and social media platforms. Operate standard office equipment and surveillance tools used during investigations.
Prepare Cases for Court Consult with the District Attorney's Office to assist in preparing cases for prosecution. Testify before trial court or Grand Jury regarding information obtained during investigations. Contribute to Public Safety Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the Criminal Investigations Division and enhance community safety.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of law enforcement practices: Familiarity with current law enforcement principles, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of investigative tools and techniques: Understanding of the practices, materials, equipment, and methods relevant to assigned duties. Effective communication skills: Ability to express thoughts clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
Strong interpersonal skills: Ability and willingness to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. Ability to work independently: Capable of managing responsible and confidential assignments with minimal supervision. Professionalism and tact: Ability to interact courteously and effectively with other agencies and members of the public.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related degree Minimum of one year of experience working in an office setting/support role, law enforcement, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position may also be considered. Work in this class is described as being sedentary and seldom requires much physical exertion to complete tasks. Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal viewing and extensive reading.
