Material Handler / Inventory Control

SUMMARY:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Material Handler to join our team in the food industry. The Material Handler will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of materials and products throughout our facility. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, organization, and teamwork, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Material Movement: Safely and efficiently transport raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, and finished products within the facility using various equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, ensure proper labeling, categorization, and storage of materials to prevent discrepancies and stockouts.
  • Loading and Unloading: Assist with loading and unloading trucks, ensuring that products are properly secured and accounted for during the process.
  • Quality Control: Conduct visual inspections of incoming materials and outgoing products, reporting any damage, defects, or discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
  • Organization: Keep storage areas, shelves, and workspaces clean, organized, and free from safety hazards, following proper sanitation and hygiene protocols.
  • Documentation: Complete necessary documentation and paperwork, including material movement logs, inventory reports, and any other required records. This is to include inserting material transactions into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in conjunction with physical movements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production teams, quality control, and logistics personnel to coordinate material supply based on production schedules and demands.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following proper procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements within material handling procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training is a plus.
  • Previous experience as a Material Handler in the food industry or a similar manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Valid forklift operator certification (or been able to obtain soon after hire) and demonstrated proficiency in operating material handling equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording inventory data.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding role, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations is an advantage.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and record-keeping purposes.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This role involves working in a food production environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and odors. The Material Handler will be required to operate material handling equipment and machinery, adhering to safety protocols, and wearing appropriate PPE. The position may involve occasional weekend or evening shifts to accommodate production schedules.
