What is an intrapreneur?

An intrapreneur is an employee within a company who is given the freedom and resources to develop new products, services, or processes as if they were an entrepreneur. Unlike entrepreneurs who start their own businesses, intrapreneurs work within the structure of an existing organization to innovate and drive change. They often take initiative, embrace risk, and use creative problem-solving to add value to their company, while still benefiting from the company's support and resources.

How does an intrapreneur typically collaborate with other departments to drive innovation within an organization?

Intrapreneurs frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with teams such as R&D, marketing, finance, and operations to transform new ideas into viable products or processes. They act as internal change agents, facilitating communication between departments, gathering diverse perspectives, and securing necessary resources. This collaborative approach helps overcome organizational silos and ensures that innovative initiatives align with company goals and are feasible from both technical and financial standpoints. Building strong relationships and fostering a shared vision are essential for intrapreneurs to successfully launch and scale new projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intrapreneur, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intrapreneur, you need strong business acumen, creativity, and project management skills, often supported by a background in business, innovation, or a related field. Familiarity with innovation frameworks, agile methodologies, and tools like Lean Startup or Design Thinking is highly beneficial. Excellent communication, resilience, and the ability to influence and collaborate across departments are standout soft skills. These competencies are crucial for driving innovation, overcoming resistance, and successfully implementing new ideas within established organizations.

What is the difference between Intrapreneur vs Entrepreneur?

Is intrapreneurship a good career path?

Intrapreneurship involves acting as an internal entrepreneur within a company, focusing on innovation and new project development. It can be a rewarding career for those interested in leadership, creativity, and strategic thinking, often requiring skills in project management and business development. Success depends on the company's culture and opportunities for growth in innovation roles.

Who We Are:
At AFC (Automotive Finance Corporation) we fuel the entrepreneurial dream in our community. For more than 35 years, we've been committed to making dreams come true for independent car dealers. AFC's finance solutions work with more than 12,000 independent dealerships across North America freeing up cash flow to give them more time to focus on building their business. Our solutions amplify purchasing power so dealers can stock their dealership lot with vehicles their customers seek. Learn more about AFC, here: https://www.autofinance.com/
AFC is proud to be a subsidiary of OPENLANE. AFC's core business complements the other business units within the OPENLANE group of companies. For more information, visit https://corporate.openlane.com/.
AFC's Core Values:
Elevating Relationships. We connect deeply with our customers - celebrating their wins and supporting their struggles as if they were our own.
Powered by Passion. We believe that "passion is our superpower" and that every success is built upon the commitment and perseverance of our employees.
Vision-driven. We look ahead to the bigger picture so our customers can be prepared; after all, their success is our destination.
Dedicated to You. We demonstrate value and appreciation by recognizing and validating each other's efforts. We stand committed to the success of our customers.
We're Looking For:
A Strategic Insurance Producer, AFC who will take aggressive ownership of insurance sales performance and premium growth for our Automotive Finance Corporation (AFC) business. Functioning as an embedded insurance leader within a commercial lending environment, your primary focus will be driving market distribution, product penetration, and revenue generation of insurance solutions (such as collateral protection and dealer operations risk mitigation). While your core responsibility is production and bridging the gap between floorplan financing and commercial insurance, you will also serve as a subject matter expert, providing critical field-level feedback to shape the strategic growth of our embedded products.
You Are:
  • An Intrapreneur. You thrive at building, scaling, and managing insurance programs within a complex financial services and commercial lending ecosystem.
  • Commercially Driven. You possess a strong production and sales enablement mindset, focused on growing premium volume and program penetration.
  • Analytical. You understand commercial risk management, insurance underwriting principles, and how insurance products insulate corporate credit risk.
  • Collaborative. You can seamlessly navigate cross-functional lines between finance, legal, compliance, and external insurance carriers.
  • An Influencer. You clearly articulate the business value of risk mitigation products to both internal branch teams and external dealer clients.

You Bring:
  • Core Knowledge
    • Deep understanding of commercial property and casualty (P&C) insurance, collateral protection insurance (CPI), or dealer open lot structures.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial lending, automotive floorplan financing, or banking frameworks.
    • Strong understanding of insurance product lifecycles, regulatory compliance, and multi-state policy structures.
  • Functional Expertise
    • Program production, commercial distribution, and business development within a banking or financial institution.
    • Managing relationships with third-party insurance carriers, fronting partners, reinsurers, and program administrators.
    • Financial modeling related to premium volume, non-interest revenue optimization, and portfolio loss-ratio analysis.
  • Technical Expertise
    • Familiarity with insurance agency management systems, risk management platforms, and loan origination software.
    • Technical data fluency to evaluate program penetration rates, claims efficiencies, and financial performance metrics.
    • Fluency in designing and optimizing digital, embedded workflows for insurance offerings during financial checkouts.

You Own:
  • Direct Sales Production & Execution (70%): Take direct, aggressive ownership of insurance sales performance by actively driving product penetration, closing deals, and maximizing premium growth across the AFC branch network.
  • Sales Enablement & Partnership (15%): Partner directly with AFC branch networks and sales leadership to execute market strategies, train team members on insurance value propositions, and systematically remove adoption barriers.
  • Product Growth & Carrier Strategy (10%): Provide critical field-level feedback to help define the growth strategy and roadmaps for AFC's insurance portfolio, and assist in managing relationships with insurance underwriters and fronting carriers.
  • Compliance & Risk Oversight (5%): Ensure all execution, sales tactics, and marketing materials strictly adhere to multi-state insurance regulations and corporate compliance standards.

You Drive:
  • Execution:
    • Driving the aggressive rollout and adoption of insurance features integrated into the AFC digital floorplan checkout experience.
    • Executing clear, consistent frameworks for product delivery, claims routing, and customer retention in the field.
  • Results:
    • Maximizing non-interest revenue and premium growth for the AFC business unit.
    • Mitigating portfolio credit risk by ensuring high-quality, continuous insurance coverage across floored dealer assets.

Who You Will Work With:
  • Reporting to Vice President of Strategic Operations, this role will collaborate with AFC executive leadership, credit risk teams, and branch operations on a weekly basis.
  • Legal and Compliance teams to navigate insurance licensing and lending regulations.
  • External insurance carriers, managing general agents (MGAs), and actuarial partners.
  • OPENLANE digital product and engineering teams to enhance embedded checkout technologies.

Where You Work:
  • Your work will be performed as a remote employee with a strong preference of local talent to Carmel, IN Headquarters.

Must Have's:
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial insurance production, program management, or bank-embedded insurance (bancassurance) leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Active Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance producer license, or the ability to obtain one within an agreed-upon timeframe.
  • Proven track record of scaling commercial insurance programs within a banking, lending, or automotive finance environment.
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and executive presentation skills.

Nice to Have's:
  • Advanced insurance industry designations (e.g., CPCU, CIC, or CRM)
  • Experience with digital marketplaces, wholesale automotive ecosystems, or floorplan management platforms.

What We Offer:
  • Competitive pay
