Job description

Job Title

The City of Loma Linda is a scenic community located within eyesight of the towering peaks of the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains. Loma Linda is located approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. While it is near the highly developed job market of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, it does provide a small town setting for your home, work or recreation. Adjacent to California's Interstate 10 freeway, Loma Linda is close to beaches, mountains and desert resorts. At VA Loma Linda Healthcare System, our health care teams are deeply experienced and guided by the needs of Veterans, their families, and caregivers. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assessment of, consultation for, and preparation of patients for anesthesia including pre-operative patient exam and assessment.
  • Provision of insensibility to pain during surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures and the management of patients so affected.
  • Monitoring and restoration of homeostasis during the perioperative period, as well as homeostasis in the critically ill, injured, or otherwise seriously ill patient.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of painful syndromes.
  • Clinical management and teaching of cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation.
  • Evaluation of respiratory function and application of respiratory therapy in all its forms.
  • Supervision, teaching, and evaluation of performance of both medical and paramedical personnel in anesthesia, respiratory, and critical care.
  • Conduct of research and collaboration in research efforts at the clinical and basic science level in order to proactively identify gaps in evidence and practice, then measure the impact of filling these gaps and linking evidence to practice. Relevant research findings and quality improvement results can then be systematically fed back to providers and patients, as appropriate.
  • Administrative involvement in hospitals, medical schools, and outpatient facilities necessary for implementation of these responsibilities.
  • Involvement in quality improvement efforts.

Work Schedule: 7am - 5:30pm, Variable, On-call coverage is required.
