Internship Opportunity at The Courier Journal

The Courier Journal, an 11-time Pulitzer Prize winner, is looking for a highly motivated individual capable of contributing right away as an intern in Louisville, Kentucky. Participants in this fellowship program will learn to select, edit and digitally optimize opinion content for publication on multiple platforms. The program also provides one-on-one coaching and mentoring. We are looking for interns who are interested in working in opinion journalism, communications or social media and digital development with the goal of elevating community conversation and productive discourse.

Responsibilities

Interns will work with the opinion editor to prepare guest columns and letters to the editor for publication in a fast-paced news environment. Duties will include copyediting, fact-checking, headline writing, search engine optimization and social media work, including creating social videos to promote content.

Critical thinking and analytical skills will be encouraged and sharpened.

Interns will work independently and closely with the opinion editor to provide perspectives and insights for newsroom and companywide opinion projects identified by senior leadership as part of strategic growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Degree-seeking students enrolled at a college or university preferred. Applicants who have completed at least two years of college and at least one internship are preferred.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, adaptable and flexible.
  • Excellent communication skills and command of the English language.
