Job Summary

We are seeking a Safety Data Analyst to develop data-driven analysis reports, executive dashboards, and statistical models to identify safety trends, evaluate risk mitigations, and examine emerging operational hazards. This role integrates multi-modal datasets to produce white-paper-style analytical reports for senior leadership, investigative teams, and state regulatory oversight agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Author academically structured, long-form reports examining critical safety issues, operational hazards, and emerging risk trends.
  • Compile, analyze, and report monthly progress toward annual safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and mitigation effectiveness for senior leadership.
  • Prepare comprehensive data packages for Safety Investigation teams to establish contextual baselines and identify related incident patterns.
  • Execute ad hoc data reviews of incident, hazard, and near-miss logs to support risk assessments and proactive safety actions.
  • Collaborate with the State Safety Oversight Agency to evaluate Risk-Based Inspection data and assess the impact of corrective action plans.
  • Clean, reconcile, and merge disparate operational and incident datasets into coherent models for trend identification.
  • Perform descriptive and inferential statistical modeling to evaluate incident frequency, variance, standard error, and operational correlations.
  • Translate raw dataset outputs into visual charts, graphs, and executive summaries adhering to data design best practices.
  • Apply safety methodologies (HFACS, FMEA) to identify root causes, organizational failures, and systemic risk drivers.
  • Partner with inter-divisional safety teams, operational staff, and external regulatory bodies to align on safety findings.
  • Maintain documentation repositories, analytical runbooks, and report archives across SharePoint and enterprise systems.
  • Deliver oral and visual presentations detailing complex analytical findings to both technical teams and non-technical public audiences.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience performing data analytics, statistical evaluations, data joining/merging, and trend identification.
  • Proven ability to produce narrative, white-paper-style analytical reports featuring literature reviews, methodology explanations, and formal recommendations.
  • Practical understanding of statistical concepts, including linear modeling, standard error, probability distributions, variance, and sampling.
  • Proficiency in data visualization techniques and advanced usage of the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS).
  • Practical experience using programming languages (SQL, Python, or R) for data extraction, manipulation, and statistical modeling.
  • Experience working alongside State Safety Oversight Agencies or similar transportation/safety regulatory framework bodies.
