Job description

A Mentored Post-Graduate Experience

Mission: To provide optimal patient care training as well as exceptional post-graduate education for graduates of AVMA-accredited veterinary technology programs throughout the United States who are seeking employment in one of the busiest and best-recognized veterinary hospitals in the world.

52-week program: Program begins September 28th, 2026

The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC), one of the world's busiest and best-recognized veterinary hospitals, is accepting applications for its Internship program in Veterinary Technology from graduates of AVMA-accredited programs for Veterinary Technology. Located on Manhattan's Upper East Side, AMC is a private, not-for-profit academic veterinary hospital. Theย Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is dedicated to providing compassionate and collaborative care to animals and to leading the advancement of veterinary medicine through innovative clinical research and education.

This unique Veterinary Technician Intern program was initiated in 1985. It was designed to further the practical training received by those working in the profession who are graduates of AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology programs or those veterinary technology students graduating from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program prior to the start of the internship.

Because of aย caseload of over 54,000 animals per year, including small animal and exotic animal pets, the Animal Medical Center offers the unequaled ability to impart skill, experience, and confidence in veterinary technology within the world's largest veterinary teaching hospital.

Our Veterinary Technician Internship Program offers an opportunity to spend 52 weeks training and learning optimal patient care skills while working with AMC's outstanding staff of Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians.

Veterinary Technician Internship Program DescriptionRotation

The internship will be completed over 52 weeks, during which each intern will rotate through various departments including our Anesthesia, Behavior, Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Medical/Surgical Unit departments, as well as 2 elective rotations in one of our other 20 specialties. For each rotation, interns work alongside clinical educators, veterinary technician specialists, technician preceptors, veterinarians who are seasoned in their given specialty and who will serve as a guide to the requirements and everyday workings of the department. In addition, the veterinary technician interns (VTIs) receive bi-monthly lectures, as well as wet and dry labs in various clinical techniques. VTIs will participate in the care and medical treatment of all animals admitted to the hospital, assisting with consultations and interdepartmental transfers. After an initial training and orientation period, VTIs will begin their rotations. Medical rotations offer opportunities to acquire standard and advanced skillsets within specific specialties. The Surgical department rotations include perioperative patient care and surgical care. ย

Evaluation
