Job Summary
The Work-based Learning (WBL) Technician works with district CTE and WBL teams to develop and coordinate authentic learning experiences, e.g. job shadows, career exploration activities, internships, field trips, guest speaker session, etc., tailored to students' interests and aptitudes to encourage more focused course-taking, increased motivation, and a more successful transition to postsecondary training or the workforce. The incumbent promotes, supports, and advocates for the many CTE pathway options and opportunities available in Granite School District.
Essential Functions
- Works proactively with teachers and school staff to schedule work-based learning presentations, activities, guest speakers, events, etc. within assigned school(s) or network.
- Develops, assists, and supports career exploration activities throughout the district as assigned, e.g. career fairs, job fairs, career assemblies, registration activities, etc.
- Supports students in acquiring the skills, attitudes, and characteristics necessary to be successful in the workplace.
- Supports district and region work-based learning activities through targeted promotion and supervision.
- Promotes the CTE pathways available to students at their school and the Granite Technical Institute with students and local and regional partners in various industries.
- Supports student engagement, retention, and achievement by connecting classroom learning with real-world work environments and career pathways.
- Works as a team member on special events such as Career Days, CTE open house, Reality Town, Kids Marketplace, Tool/Vehicle days, mock interviews, special CTE events, and other district work-based learning activities.
- Works closely as part of a district work-based learning team in providing quality activities and experiences throughout the district as assigned.
- Communicates with teachers, counselors, and administrators to familiarize them with the role of the work-based learning specialist and the work-based learning activities available.
- Supports teachers in identifying and scheduling field trips to provide greater student awareness of local businesses/industries and what they do.
- Increases student awareness of all work-based learning opportunities through various communications and promotional techniques to assure equitable access for all students.
- Uses YouScience interest and aptitude data in junior high and high schools to promote work-based learning opportunities to students.
- Works closely with the work-based learning business liaison to coordinate WBL activities, student placement in internships, and site supervision.
- Supports an assigned CTE Coordinator in their role as program manager over an assigned pathway.
- Maintains accurate records of all work-based learning activities that occur across assigned school(s) or network.
- Establishes, maintains, and executes "exit tickets" and other follow-up processes with students after work-based learning experiences have been completed to help determine next steps and additional opportunities to enhance/progress the student's educational experience.

Required Education and Qualifications
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Requires a valid driver's license.
Required Prior Experience
- Experience working with students at one or more grade-levels
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to interface with a broad range of stakeholders, including students, education staff, industry professionals, and workforce agencies in a professional manner.
- Ability to scrutinize and analyze relevant data and information for patterns and errors.
- Skill in accurately completing required reports in a timely manner.
- Skill in utilizing various Microsoft Office or Google Suit applications, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and public relation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Assigned Decision Making
- Empowered to make decisions independently, within guidelines provided, for the work-based learning program in the assigned school(s) or network.
- Empowered to assesses worksite safety for identified internship sites and to report concerns to the appropriate CTE Coordinator or Director.
Non-supervisory Interaction
- Interacts positively and professionally with students, education staff, industry partners, and workforce agencies.
- Works closely with industry partners to open sites for student participation in job shadows, internships, and apprenticeship opportunities.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Monitors student success in work-based learning experiences, including safety on worksites and during all activities/events.
- Facilitates student completion of training requirements for participation in internship/apprenticeship opportunities.
Budget Responsibility
- Ensures that expenditures are within the budget provided by the CTE Director for network work-based learning activities.
Working Environment
- Work takes place primarily in a typical school environment.
- Responsibilities may require limited work in various business and industry settings with uncomfortable environments.
- Travels between schools, industry sites, and work-based learning activities on a regular basis using own vehicle in all types of weather and air quality; mileage reimbursement is available.
