To excel as a Remote Inventory Intern, you typically need a background in supply chain management or business, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. Familiarity with inventory management software (such as SAP or Oracle), spreadsheets, and data entry systems is often required. Effective communication, problem-solving, and time management are vital soft skills for coordinating remotely with teams and handling tasks independently. These skills ensure accurate inventory tracking, minimize errors, and support smooth operations in a remote work environment.

What is the difference between Internship Remote Inventory vs Inventory Associate?

AspectInternship Remote InventoryInventory Associate
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma or equivalent; some roles may prefer coursework in logistics or supply chainHigh school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience preferred

Internship Remote Inventory roles focus on providing students or entry-level candidates with remote experience in inventory management, often involving data entry and analysis. Inventory Associate positions are hands-on, on-site roles responsible for stock handling, counting, and organization. The main difference lies in the remote versus on-site work environment and the experience level targeted.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during a remote inventory internship?

As a remote inventory intern, you’ll typically assist with tracking stock levels, updating inventory databases, and reconciling discrepancies between physical and digital records. You may also help analyze inventory trends, prepare reports, and collaborate with team members in supply chain or procurement to streamline inventory processes. Communication is often conducted via email, video calls, or project management tools, so being proactive and organized is key to succeeding in this environment.

What are remote inventory internships?

Remote inventory internships are training positions where interns assist companies in managing and tracking their inventory from a remote location. These roles often involve using inventory management software, analyzing stock levels, processing data, and helping to optimize supply chain operations. Interns typically collaborate with team members via digital tools and gain hands-on experience in logistics and inventory control without needing to be physically present at a warehouse or store. This type of internship is ideal for those interested in supply chain management, logistics, or operations, and offers flexibility as well as practical industry skills.

Job description

Who we are
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing - and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.
Working at Samsara means you'll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that's shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you'll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the Role
We are looking for a curious, hands-on Operations Intelligence Co-Op to join our team. You will work alongside data scientists, engineers, and supply chain domain experts on end-to-end projects that span forecasting, automation, and decision support.
This is a role for students who enjoy getting their hands dirty: writing real code, exploring messy operational data, and seeing their work influence actual business processes across planning, procurement, fulfillment, and production.
This is a high-visibility, cross-functional position embedded within the Operations Innovation & Intelligence group.
This is a remote opportunity. This role is open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.
You Should Apply If
  • Are pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Enjoy translating ambiguous real-world problems into structured analytical approaches.
  • Have foundational programming skills in Python and an interest in ML or AI applications.
  • You are excited to apply AI/ML within real-world operational contexts such as forecasting, inventory optimization, sourcing analytics, logistics intelligence, and revenue enablement.
  • Communicate well and can explain your work to non-technical stakeholders.
In This Role, You Will
AI Agent & Automation Development
  • Assist in building or testing AI-powered tools that automate supply chain workflows (e.g., PO anomaly detection, logistics exception alerts).
  • Help prototype lightweight bots or agents that connect internal tools and enterprise systems (ERP, planning platforms, Salesforce).
  • Support evaluation and testing of LLM-based assistants for operational use cases.
Machine Learning & Analytics
  • Contribute to ML model development for demand forecasting, inventory analysis, or risk detection.
  • Explore and clean supply chain datasets; perform exploratory data analysis to surface insights.
  • Build dashboards or notebooks that make model outputs accessible to business teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with stakeholders in Planning, Procurement, Fulfillment, and Production Engineering to understand pain points and data needs.
  • Participate in team standups, design reviews, and sprint ceremonies.
  • Present findings and project updates to the team and business partners.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited BS or MS program (Computer Science, Data Science, Industrial/Supply Chain Engineering, Statistics, or related).
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with SQL or experience querying structured datasets.
  • Comfort working with ambiguous problems and iterating toward solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or project experience in machine learning, NLP, or operations research.
  • Exposure to LLMs or generative AI tools (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, LangChain).
  • Familiarity with supply chain concepts: demand planning, inventory, procurement, or logistics.
  • Experience with data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, Plotly).
  • Prior internship, research, or project experience in a data-focused role.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP) or CRM platforms (Salesforce) is a plus but not required.
What Success Looks Like
  • Delivered a scoped project or feature that the team can build on after your rotation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while asking for help when needed.
  • Clear and concise communication of findings to technical and business audiences.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a bias toward getting things done.
What You'll Learn & Take Away
This co-op is designed to give you genuine exposure to applied AI/ML in an operational setting. By the end of your rotation, you can expect to:
  • Have shipped or meaningfully contributed to a production-grade or production-bound AI/ML feature.
  • Understand how AI and data science plug into real supply chain processes at a high-growth public company.
  • Build a network across supply chain, engineering, finance, and operations functions.
  • Walk away with a strong portfolio project and mentorship from experienced practitioners.

Total Rewards
At Samsara, we build for the people who keep the global economy moving. We want owners, not passengers, which is why our rewards are designed to fuel high-impact builders. Our compensation program delivers above-market total compensation through a combination of base salary, performance-based bonus/variable pay, and equity (for eligible roles) in a high-growth public company. We meaningfully differentiate pay for our top performers, who have the opportunity to earn above-market compensation that can outpace the broader market over time.
Beyond compensation, we provide the foundations that enable long-term success: a flexible, employee-led remote model, a professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, and more. If you're ready to build for the long term and own the outcome, your journey starts here.
Flexible Working
At Samsara, we embrace a flexible working model that caters to the diverse needs of our teams. Our offices are open for those who prefer to work in-person and we also support remote work where it aligns with our operational requirements. For certain positions, being close to one of our offices or within a specific geographic area is important to facilitate collaboration, access to resources, or alignment with our service regions.
