Position Overview

Astemo Americas Inc. is seeking a highly motivated engineer to join the Suspension Core Engineering Team. This role is ideal for an earlycareer engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical design, fluid mechanics, and manufacturing processes, who is eager to contribute to the development of nextgeneration shock absorber technologies and components.

The Core Engineering team is the technical backbone and component authority for shock absorber components and technologies, translating vehiclelevel requirements into robust, manufacturable damper solutions by owning engineering fundamentals, design standards, and validation methodologies across global programs.

The Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, validation, and industrialization of new suspension components, supporting both passive and semiactive systems, while collaborating closely with global engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and OEM customers. This position offers a balance of handson technical work, crossfunctional exposure, and guided ownership, with clear growth toward senior technical roles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the design and development of new shock absorber components and technologies, for passive and semi-active dampers. (Valves, Tubes, Fluids, etc)
  • Apply fluid mechanics and hydraulics principles to support damper performance, flow behavior, and functional optimization.
  • Support component development from concept through prototype, validation, and production release following automotive project cycles.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings with detailed GD&T, in accordance with internal and global standards.
  • Perform and document engineering calculations, design trade-off studies, and technical justifications.
  • Work with simulation and CAE teams to support virtual validation and verification activities
  • Support creation and maintenance of DFMEA, DVP&R, statements of requirements, and design documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews with internal stakeholders and OEM customers.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, weight, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Apply materials science, manufacturing process knowledge, and DFM/DFA principles throughout the design process.
  • Support prototype builds, testing activities, data acquisition, and postprocessing analysis.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for development or production issues.
  • Work closely with global engineering teams, Tier2 suppliers, and OEM customers.
  • Stay current with emerging suspension technologies, materials, and manufacturing methods.
  • Manage assigned technical deliverables with guidance from senior engineers while demonstrating strong communication, teamwork, and continuous learning.
Required QualificationsTechnical Skills
  • Solid fundamentals in:
    • Mechanical design
    • Fluid mechanics and hydraulics
    • Materials and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation with GD&T. (SolidWorks or CATIA preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, and automotive development processes
  • Exposure to testing, validation, CAE or CFD is a plus
  • Exposure to vehicle dynamics and ride & handling fundamentals, including an understanding of how damper characteristics influence ride comfort, handling, and vehicle performance, is a plus.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree is a plusExperience: 2-5 years of relevant experience in automotive or mechanical product development

  • Experience with suspension, dampers, hydraulics, or precision mechanical components is preferred
Working Conditions
  • Occasional meetings outside standard business hours to support global teams
  • Domestic and international travel may be required on a limited basis
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Standard workweek with flexibility based on project needs
