What is an internship program?

An internship program is a structured work experience offered by organizations to students or recent graduates, allowing them to gain practical skills and industry knowledge in a real-world environment. Internships can be paid or unpaid and typically last for a set period, such as a summer or semester. These programs help interns develop professional connections, enhance their resumes, and sometimes lead to full-time job opportunities after completion.

What are common responsibilities and learning opportunities for participants in an internship program?

Internship programs typically assign interns a mix of hands-on tasks and supportive duties within a team setting. Responsibilities may include assisting with ongoing projects, conducting research, attending meetings, and collaborating with full-time employees. Interns often gain exposure to industry tools and workflows, receive mentorship, and participate in professional development activities. These experiences are designed to help interns develop practical skills, build a professional network, and better understand potential career paths within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an internship program, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Internship Program, candidates generally need a foundational knowledge of their field of study, a strong academic record, and relevant coursework or project experience. Familiarity with industry-specific software, productivity tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and sometimes basic certifications may be expected. Standout interns demonstrate initiative, adaptability, effective communication, and a willingness to learn. These skills and qualities are important as they enable interns to contribute meaningfully while developing professionally in a real-world work environment.

Job description

INTERNSHIP  |  OVERLAND PARK, KS

Coaching Internship Program

12 Weeks  •  BridgeFit Personal Training  •  Adults 40+

Most internships have you cleaning equipment and watching from the corner. This one isn’t that.

If you’re serious about becoming a professional coach — not just someone who runs sessions — this 12-week program is built for you. You’ll work with real clients, get real feedback, and develop the skills that actually matter in a coaching career.

We coach adults 40+, which means communication, attention to detail, and professionalism matter just as much as exercise knowledge. You’ll be held to a high standard here — and that’s exactly the point.

BridgeFit has been voted Best Personal Training in Johnson County three years in a row. Most of our coaching staff came through this program.

Strong performance may lead to part-time or full-time employment. Hiring is based on performance, growth, and current staffing needs — not guaranteed, but it’s happened more often than not.

What You Can Expect
  • A structured 12-week curriculum — not just shadowing, but actual skill development
  • Hands-on coaching experience with adults 40+ in a real training environment
  • Consistent mentorship and direct feedback from experienced coaches
  • Exposure to professional coaching systems, programming, and client communication
What We Expect From You
  • Coachability — you take feedback seriously and apply it
  • Professional communication and presence every single day
  • Reliability and consistent effort, not just when it’s convenient
  • A genuine interest in helping people, not just running sessions
12-Week Curriculum Overview

Weeks 1–4: Foundation

  • BridgeFit service and coaching standards
  • Coaching skills and professional communication
  • Biomechanics and exercise technique

Weeks 5–8: Application

  • Exercise progressions and regressions
  • BridgeFit programming system
  • BridgeFit movement assessment

Weeks 9–12: Integration

  • Integrating coaching systems
  • Health coaching framework
  • Goal setting and client conversations
  • Introduction to sales and client onboarding
Who This Is For
  • Aspiring personal trainers or strength coaches who want to treat coaching as a profession
  • Students or recent graduates in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field
  • People who value growth, accountability, and high standards
  • Coaches who want long-term development — not shortcuts

If you’re ready to learn, grow, and be challenged in a professional coaching environment — send your resume.
