How much do internship ontology jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for internship ontology in the United States is $16.33, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $19.23 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do interns specializing in ontology typically collaborate with data scientists and software engineers during their internship?

Interns working in ontology often work closely with data scientists and software engineers to ensure that data models and semantic structures align with project requirements. They may be responsible for designing or updating ontologies, annotating datasets, and helping integrate semantic frameworks into existing systems. Regular meetings and collaborative coding sessions are common, providing interns with opportunities to gain feedback and learn industry best practices. This cross-functional collaboration helps interns develop a holistic understanding of how ontologies support broader data management and AI initiatives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ontology Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ontology Intern, you generally need a background in computer science, information science, or a related field, with foundational knowledge in data modeling and semantics. Familiarity with ontology development tools (such as Protégé), languages like OWL or RDF, and possibly some exposure to SPARQL or related query systems is typical. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective collaboration skills help an intern excel when working with complex data structures and interdisciplinary teams. These competencies are essential for accurately structuring information, ensuring data interoperability, and contributing to knowledge management projects.

What is an Internship Ontology?

An Internship Ontology is a structured framework or model that defines and categorizes the key concepts, roles, relationships, and attributes related to internships. It helps organize and standardize information about internships, making it easier to share, search, and analyze data across different platforms or institutions. Such ontologies are often used in academic, HR, or technology settings to improve internship management, matching, and reporting processes.

What is the difference between Internship Ontology vs Data Analyst?

AspectInternship OntologyData Analyst
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or holding a degree in information science, computer science, or related fieldsBachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields; certifications like CAP or Microsoft Certified Data Analyst are common
Work EnvironmentResearch, academic, or industry-specific projects; often in a learning or developmental settingBusiness environments, tech companies, or consulting firms; focus on data interpretation and reporting
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by educational institutions, research organizations, and companies developing ontologies or knowledge basesEmployers across finance, healthcare, marketing, and tech sectors analyzing data for decision-making

Internship Ontology focuses on structuring knowledge about internships, often in academic or research contexts, while Data Analysts interpret and analyze data to support business decisions. Both roles require analytical skills but differ in scope and application.
