Department: Treatment Services Internship

Internship Title: Treatment Intern

Supervisor: Treatment Director

Internship: Nonpaid

Prepared Date: 1/10/24

Summary

Sunny Glen Children's Home is looking for a qualified intern to join our Treatment team. The Treatment Intern is responsible for providing mental health/counseling services to the children at Sunny Glen Children's Home, the youth at Monte & Amy Allen House-Supervised Independent Living Center, and the clients at Sunny Glen Counseling Services.

Responsibilities

Conduct mental health and substance abuse assessments and screenings.

Provide individual, group, family, and couples counseling.

Provide psychoeducation and support groups to individuals.

Complete well written, clinical documentation.

Adhere to all timeframes & deadlines as per state, GRO, and internal policies and procedures.

Adhere to American Counseling Association (ACA) and National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.

Provide crisis intervention.

Must abide by Sunny Glen Children's Home's mission of giving nurturing, trauma-informed care to children from difficult backgrounds.

Learn and abide by Sunny Glen Children's Home policies and procedures.

Learn and stay within Minimum Standards

Attend training and meetings, as scheduled.

Possess sensitivity to the client's' cultural and socio-economic characteristics.

Be a positive role model for the clients.

Uses strong organizational skills.

Coordinate all referrals, service planning, and client documentation for assigned caseload (clinical assessments, incident reports, progress notes, etc.)

Participate in weekly staff/team meetings and training.

Participate in workshops, seminars, education programs, and other activities that promote professional growth and development.

Meets with each client on caseload at least once a week or more as needed.

Prepare, compile, and submit accurate documentation in case management software.

Continually assess ongoing changes in behavior, circumstances, or conditions that may affect client safety or well-being.

Monitors client's services, ensures all required services are delivered, and sets and attends appointments with outside mental health services.

Maintains a clinical, therapeutic, and trauma-informed view of each client in his/her caseload and helps staff develop this perspective.

Assess client progress toward risk reduction, achievement of treatment goals, and positive case outcomes.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Be attending school for a master's degree in counseling, social work, sociology,

or other relevant behavioral science.

Must be 21+ years of age or older.

Language Skills

Bilingual (English/Spanish). Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the public.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office.
