Job description

This position will operate on a remote, freelance basis.
We're looking for Freelance Tech Writers to contribute feature content to our Smart Home category at Valnet's Tech sites!
This role is ideal for writers who enjoy testing devices, exploring platforms, and explaining how connected home tech actually works in the real world.
You'll be creating practical, reader-first content that helps everyday users set up, optimize, and troubleshoot their smart homes, whether they're beginners or power users.What You'll Be Writing About
Our smart home coverage includes (but is not limited to):
  • Smart home ecosystems and platforms (Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Home Assistant, SmartThings, etc.)
  • Smart lighting, plugs, switches, thermostats, cameras, locks, and sensors
  • Automation routines, scenes, and integrations
  • Setup guides, troubleshooting walkthroughs, and feature explainers
  • Tips and tricks that help readers get more value from their connected devices
Responsibilities
  • Write original, well-researched smart home feature articles
  • Pitch timely, practical story ideas that align with reader needs
  • Explain technical concepts clearly for non-technical audiences
