Job description

Freelance Technical Designer- Apparel and Activewear
Position Overview: Popular American retailer is seeking a detail-oriented Freelance Technical Designer to support the Offline brand, with a focus on apparel and activewear. This role will partner closely with Design, Production, and vendor teams to ensure garments meet brand standards for fit, construction, quality, and performance from initial development through pre-production.
The Freelance Technical Designer will examine and measure proto, fit, and production samples; lead fit discussions; and translate feedback into clear technical direction for internal partners and vendors. This is an on-site collaborative role supporting product development milestones, fittings, and approvals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review proto, fit, and production samples for measurement accuracy, construction quality, garment performance, and overall fit.
• Partner with Design to achieve the intended aesthetic, fit, and functionality of apparel and activewear products.
• Represent and uphold consistent company standards for fit, construction, and quality.
• Lead and facilitate fit sessions with cross-functional partners.
• Communicate development and fit feedback to vendors through written fit comments, technical packages, sketches, pattern corrections, and verbal discussions.
• Work closely with Design and Production to communicate product requirements and resolve fit or construction issues.
• Maintain fit standards, sample records, written reports, and seasonal development documentation.
• Create and maintain tracking reports for sample status and approvals.
• Support in-person collaboration for product development meetings, fittings, milestone reviews, and approvals.
• Perform additional technical design responsibilities as needed to support the business.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• 5+ years of technical design experience in apparel; activewear experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong patternmaking and garment construction knowledge required.
• Experience evaluating fit, measurements, construction details, and quality across development and production samples.
• Ability to manage multiple styles, timelines, and sample approvals in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Design, Production, and vendor partners.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing competing priorities.
