What are internship roles?

Internship roles are temporary positions offered by companies or organizations to students or recent graduates, providing them with practical experience in their field of study or interest. Interns typically work under the supervision of experienced professionals and gain hands-on knowledge, develop job skills, and build professional networks. Internships can be paid or unpaid and often serve as a stepping stone to full-time employment after graduation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern, and why are they important?

To excel as an Intern, you generally need a foundational understanding of your field of study, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn, often supported by current enrollment in a relevant academic program. Familiarity with basic office software, digital collaboration tools, and sometimes proprietary systems relevant to the industry is beneficial. Proactive communication, adaptability, and a positive attitude help interns stand out and make the most of their learning experience. These skills are crucial for effectively contributing to teams, gaining practical experience, and building a professional network during the internship.

What types of projects or tasks are typically assigned to interns, and how do these experiences contribute to professional development?

Interns are often given a mix of meaningful projects and daily operational tasks that align with the organization's goals and the intern's field of study. Typical assignments may include research, data analysis, assisting with ongoing projects, or supporting team meetings. These experiences are designed to help interns develop practical skills, gain industry-specific knowledge, and build professional relationships that are valuable for future career opportunities. Regular feedback and mentorship are usually provided, fostering both personal and professional growth throughout the internship.

Job description

About TheLinkU
TheLinkU is a dynamic, Houston-based organization dedicated to connecting student-athletes with transformative opportunities through name, image, and likeness (NIL) partnerships. We bridge the gap between student-athletes, brands, and the broader sports ecosystem - empowering the next generation of athletic talent while delivering exceptional value to our clients and partners.
Our Revenue Generation model supports partnerships from deal structuring through contract execution and athlete compensation. We provide the infrastructure, relationships, and execution needed to drive sustainable NIL revenue while maintaining transparency, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Position Overview
We're looking for a driven, personable, and hungry individual to join our partnerships team as a part-time intern this summer. You'll work directly alongside our Account executive, getting hands-on experience in NIL deal-making, B2B sales, and revenue generation within college athletics.
This isn't a background role. You'll be in the field, in the room, and in the conversation from day one.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support day-to-day prospecting and outreach across our NWA business pipeline
  • Assist in setting and preparing for partner meetings
  • Attend networking events, activations, and community functions representing Arkansas Front Office
  • Learn and execute our sales process across NIL and B2B partnership offerings
  • Build relationships with local and regional businesses on behalf of the platform
  • Assist in managing and organizing partnership communications and follow-up
What You'll Learn
  • How NIL partnerships are structured, pitched, and executed at the Division I level
  • The fundamentals of B2B sales in a real-world, fast-moving environment
  • How revenue is generated in college athletics beyond traditional media and ticketing
  • How to prospect, build a pipeline, and move deals from conversation to close
  • What it takes to build a brand partnership program from the ground up
Who We're Looking For
  • Current college student, graduate student, or recent graduate
  • Background or interest in business, marketing, sports management, communications, or related fields - but major matters less than mindset
  • Genuine interest in the sales and business development side of college athletics
  • Strong communicator - comfortable on the phone, in meetings, and in person
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and follows through
  • Deep connection to or passion for Razorback Athletics and the NWA community is a plus
Key Attributes
  • Hungry, coachable, and competitive
  • Strong sense of ownership and follow-through
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Personable and confident in front of clients, partners, and athletes
  • Resourceful and proactive - figures it out and gets it done
  • Professional presence and strong written and verbal communication skills
Why Join TheLinkU
  • Be part of one of the fastest-growing sectors in sports and marketing.
  • Play a direct role in supporting NIL operations.
  • Work in an entrepreneurial, high-growth environment.
  • Make a real impact on student-athletes and athletic programs.
  • A front-row seat to the fast-growing NIL and student-athlete ecosystem.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven culture with direct leadership access and significant growth potential.
