The Medical Writer is an entry-level medical content lead for individual accounts and is responsible for the day-to-day development of high quality strategic and scientifically accurate medical content for target healthcare audiences, while adhering to budget and timelines.
This role offers exposure to strategic scientific communication and the opportunity to grow into a lead medical content developer through mentorship and hands-on training. All members of our medical team are live in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities and Duties
Critically evaluate, analyze, and interpret medical literature to develop and assist in the development of medical education activities, including but not limited to advisory boards and slide decks
Adequately reference all content using approved client materials for guidance and securing additional references or information as necessary
Develop and maintain expertise in various therapeutic areas, including CNS, oncology, and rare disease
Actively participate in client meetings and regulatory review for assigned projects, incorporating feedback and preparing projects for submission
Be well versed in established professional medical editorial processes (eg, AMA style) and ethical guidelines
Work collaboratively with internal teams (accounts, digital, shared services) and clients to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
Travel to clients and meetings as needed
Qualifications
PhD, PharmD, or MD required
This position is Boston-based with requirements in the office at least 2 days per week.
Demonstrated ability to write clear, accurate, and engaging scientific content (internships, coursework, or academic experience accepted. Ability and willingness to learn new therapeutic areas. Please note any therapeutic area expertise when applying.
Familiarity with basic medical and pharmaceutical concepts; interest in learning industry standards and promotional review processes. Ability to quickly learn new medical/marketing subject matter and correctly interpret medical data.
High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy with medical content, including referencing
Proven time management skills, including successful track record of meeting deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent oral communication skills with clients, KOLs, and internal team members
Strong listening and analytical skills
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (eg, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and AMA guidelines
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
Good organizational and interpersonal skills
Strong team player
