Job Description โ€“ Interventional Radiology (IR) Neuro Radiologic Technologist

Facility: Strong Memorial Hospital

 Position Summary:

Strong Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced Interventional Radiology (IR) Neuro Radiologic Technologist to support neurointerventional and neurosurgical procedures in a high-acuity academic medical center. The technologist will collaborate with interventional radiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, nurses, and anesthesia teams to provide imaging support during minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic neurovascular procedures. Candidates must have neurosurgery/neuroscience experience, while Interventional Radiology (IR) experience is highly preferred.

 Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and maintain Interventional Radiology (IR) suites for neurovascular and neurosurgical procedures.
  • Operate fluoroscopy, digital angiography, and advanced imaging equipment during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Assist physicians during cerebral angiograms, mechanical thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling, embolization, carotid artery stenting, and other neurointerventional procedures.
  • Prepare, position, and monitor patients before, during, and after procedures while ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Maintain a sterile field and assist with sterile technique, instrument setup, and procedural supplies.
  • Prepare and handle contrast media, catheters, guidewires, stents, coils, and other interventional devices according to departmental protocols.
  • Monitor radiation safety practices and ensure compliance with ALARA principles and radiation protection standards.
  • Perform quality control checks on imaging equipment and promptly report equipment malfunctions.
  • Accurately document imaging procedures, patient information, and procedural data within the electronic medical record (EMR) and imaging systems.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient workflow and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Respond to emergency neurovascular cases, including acute stroke interventions and trauma procedures.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to provide after-hours, weekend, holiday, and emergency procedural coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, infection prevention protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with inventory management by maintaining adequate stock of interventional supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and competency assessments.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Current ARRT certification and state licensure (as applicable).
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Recent experience in Neurosurgery/Neuroscience.
  • Interventional Radiology (IR) experience highly preferred.
Schedule:
  • 40 hours per week
  • 5 ร— 8-hour shifts or 4 ร— 10-hour shifts
  • 2โ€“3 on-call shifts per month
  • 1 holiday shift per assignment
  • Additional weekend or emergency call coverage may be required.
