UI/UX Designer

Heavy Equipment | Product Development Engineering

Full-Time  |  On-Site  |  0-2 Years Experience

Diversified Services Network, Inc. (DSN) is seeking a full-time UI/UX Designer to join our team in Clayton, NC! We offer full benefits, PTO, 401k, and more! If you're looking to grow your technical career within an extremely reputable, stable Fortune 500 company - let's talk!

Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and curious UI/UX Designer to join a small, high-impact UX/UI team embedded within a world-class Product Development Engineering environment. In this role, you will design the machine display interfaces that heavy equipment operators rely on every day - work that directly influences safety, efficiency, and operator experience in real-world construction environments.

This is a unique opportunity to apply human-centered design principles to complex, high-stakes systems, pushing your expertise in human factors, usability, and interface design well beyond what traditional UI roles demand.

Key Contributions & Responsibilities
  • Analyze and understand how operators interact with construction equipment in real-world environments to inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with users and internal team members to understand, capture, and define project requirements.
  • Develop UI concept layouts based on available display screen sizes and the information needs of internal and external customers.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes that meet project requirements, satisfy strategic consistency initiatives, and deliver preferred operator experiences.
  • Design intuitive, user-centered interfaces for next-generation machine displays.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams throughout the value chain to evolve concepts into mature, validated, production-ready designs.
  • Collaborate with the UI Architect and cross-functional product group teams to align on project requirements and user needs.
  • Engage with Enterprise UI Designers and Architects to promote strategic design consistency across divisional products.
Team Structure & Work Environment
  • You will be part of a matrix organization within a small, collaborative UX/UI team that supports multiple Product Groups across the business.
  • Day-to-day work takes place in a large, modern office where all disciplines of Product Development Engineering are co-located - directly alongside the construction machines being designed for.
  • The role offers consistent interaction with engineers, product managers, UI architects, and equipment operators, creating a rich, cross-disciplinary work environment.

Requirements

Candidate RequirementsEducation & Experience
  • 0-2 years of relevant UI/UX design experience (internship experience accepted).
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in UX/UI Design, Human Factors, Psychology, Ergonomics, or a related discipline preferred; a 2-year Associate's Degree is acceptable.
  • Experience in UI development for Off-Road or Heavy Equipment displays is a strong differentiator.
Top Technical Skills
  • UI Design experience, ideally including interface development for industrial or off-road heavy equipment displays.
  • Proficiency in Figma for wireframing, prototyping, simulations, and specification documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with software engineers on UI design and product design architecture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired Technical Skills
  • Experience gathering and synthesizing feedback from off-road or heavy equipment operators.
  • Working knowledge of Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles with demonstrated ability to apply them in product design.
Required Soft Skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Commitment to technical excellence in all deliverables.
  • Self-driven initiative and genuine intellectual curiosity.
Desired Soft Skills
  • Detail-oriented with a strong eye for aesthetics, visual hierarchy, and styling.
  • High creative capability with the discipline to design within established design system frameworks.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Goal-oriented self-starter who takes initiative without prompting.
