Job description

  1. Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees of the organization.
  2. Responsible for assigned areas of laboratory activities.
  3. Shall maintain proficiency and perform diagnostic tests in any of the areas of the laboratory to include: Blood bank, Serology, Coagulation, Hematology, Chemistry, clinical Microscopy and Microbiology.
  4. When assigned to the section the M.T. will perform diagnostic tests in conformance with the laboratory procedure and physician order; initiate follow up as necessary to confirm an order; draw venous or capillary blood from patients as required; receive other body fluids or specimens from inpatients and outpatients; package specimens together with pertinent information arrange for delivery to reference laboratory; and prioritize requests according to need and conditions.
  5. Record, file, and check all laboratory results and effectively communicate as soon as possible all required results to appropriate personnel.  Ensure proper reporting of all charges and data-processing copies.  Complete periodic proficiency survey tests and record required reports.  Maintain confidentiality of all patient reports and distribute to those authorized.
  6. Interact with public, patients, and other professionals in a discrete, polite, and professional manner.
  7. Prepare and set-up equipment for various tests, assure proper calibration of equipment.
  8. Operate within established control parameters for all laboratory test.
  9. Ensure constant documentation and retention of all quality control data.
  10. Perform and record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks on all laboratory equipment.
  11. Practice efficient economical use of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  12. Ensure adequate availability of required supplies and reagents and communicate to appropriate supervisory personnel when necessary.
  13. Keep abreast of new developments in the field of clinical laboratory, including procedures, techniques, equipment and computers.
  14. Has ability to learn and perform new procedures established in the clinical laboratory.
  15. Maintain work area in a neat, clean and orderly condition at all times.
  16. Assist in work performed by MLT; orientation of all new personnel; training of students, and instruction to nontechnical personnel.
  17. Must wear facility provided identification badge.
  18. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Associate's degree in science from an accredited institution and completion of an approved medical technician internship program.

  • ASCP eligible. 

  • Computer skills preferred.


     

    MT 00038

    Bachelor's degree or higher in Medical/Clinical Laboratory science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry from an accredited institution and completion of an approved Medical Technology internship program.  
    ASCP or equivalent certification required within six (6) months of hire.  HEW certification acceptable.  
    Computer skills preferred.
