About the Company

Our client is a respected heavy civil contractor with a strong presence throughout Central and Southern Ohio. For decades, the company has successfully delivered large-scale infrastructure and site development projects for both public and private clients. With annual revenues exceeding $100 million, they continue to expand their portfolio of work involving heavy highway construction, site development, earthwork, underground utilities, and structural and paving concrete.

As the company continues to grow, they are looking to add a motivated estimator to their preconstruction team who enjoys the challenge of pursuing complex civil construction projects.

About the Position

This role offers the opportunity to play a critical part in the company's project acquisition efforts by developing accurate, competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects. The successful candidate will estimate a variety of work including highways, roadway improvements, drainage infrastructure, grading, excavation, and underground utility installations.

Working closely with operations and project leadership, you'll analyze plans and specifications, evaluate project risks, develop detailed pricing, and help position the company to secure profitable work. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys managing multiple opportunities simultaneously while delivering high-quality bid packages under deadline.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive estimates for heavy civil and highway construction projects.
  • Complete quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Assemble detailed project budgets and final bid proposals.
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and identify potential risks.
  • Apply knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and productivity to prepare competitive estimates.
  • Monitor market conditions and material pricing trends to ensure estimate accuracy.
  • Support the preconstruction process by collaborating with internal project teams throughout the bidding cycle.

Requirements

    • A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline with at least two years of estimating experience; or
    • Five or more years of heavy highway or heavy civil estimating and preconstruction experience.
    • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
    • The ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • A solid understanding of heavy civil construction techniques and estimating practices.
    • A competitive mindset with a passion for pursuing and winning new projects.

    Benefits

    • Highly competitive base salary
    • Annual discretionary bonus program
    • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
    • Generous paid time off and paid holidays
    • 401(k) plan with company matching contributions
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
    • Company-paid life and disability insurance
