These hackathons usually last from a few hours to a few days and provide participants with the opportunity to showcase their technical and creative skills. They also serve as a platform for networking, gaining practical experience, and sometimes even securing job offers or internships. Internship hackathons often focus on specific themes like software development, product design, or data science, and are valuable learning experiences for participants.

What can I expect in terms of collaboration and mentorship during an Internship Hackathon?

During an Internship Hackathon, participants typically work in small, cross-functional teams, allowing you to collaborate closely with peers from diverse backgrounds. Mentorship is a key component, with experienced professionals offering guidance, answering questions, and providing feedback throughout the event. Job Summary:
Rivet Industries is an American company focused on building integrated task systems for industrial workforces and defense personnel. They are seeking a Software Engineer for Spatial Applications to work on real-time 3D and XR projects primarily using C# with Unity or StereoKit, while collaborating with senior engineers to ship scoped features and learn about device integration.
Responsibilities:
• Build scoped 3D/XR features in Unity or StereoKit under technical guidance.
• Write clean, testable C# for UI, interaction, and visualization.
• Integrate with platform APIs and OpenXR with senior support.
• Profile, debug, and iterate on device with feedback from senior engineers.
• Join design and code reviews across the team.
• Help build companion app and tooling components in Java/Kotlin or Python.
• Work with 3D content from artists or vendors — importing models, textures, animations.
• Pair with senior engineers on native C++ work or platform integration.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 1-3 years of professional experience, OR a strong portfolio of shipped XR or real-time 3D work (academic, internship, hackathon, side projects, games).
• BS in CS, CE, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Proficient in C# OR C++. Experience with Unity OR StereoKit (or another 3D engine).
• Familiarity with at least one XR runtime or SDK (OpenXR, Quest, HoloLens, ARCore).
• Comfortable importing and working with 3D assets in Unity or a similar engine.
• Working knowledge of Git in a multi-developer workflow.
• Comfortable digging through unfamiliar hardware, docs, and source.
• Curiosity about XR, embedded systems, or real-time graphics.
Preferred:
• Both C# and C++. Experience with both Unity and StereoKit.
• Android or embedded Linux exposure.
• Java or Kotlin for Android components.
• Python for scripts, tooling, or test harnesses.
• Performance profiling experience (CPU/GPU/memory).
• Computer vision, perception, or AI/ML coursework or projects.
• Shipped features in a games, VFX, simulation, or XR studio context.
• Strong fit if you came up through XR side projects, games, simulation, or VFX. Credentials matter less than what you've actually shipped.
Company:
Rivet Industries delivers front line hardware and software to the world's most important workers. Founded in 2024, the company is headquartered in Washington, USA, with a team of 51-200 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
