What is an internship gaming QA?

An Internship Gaming QA (Quality Assurance) is an entry-level position where interns test video games to identify bugs, glitches, and other issues before the game is released to the public. QA interns play through various parts of the game, follow test plans, and document any problems they encounter so developers can fix them. This role provides hands-on experience with the game development process and helps interns learn about software testing, attention to detail, and teamwork within the gaming industry.

What are the typical responsibilities of an internship gaming QA?

As a Gaming QA intern, you'll primarily be responsible for testing new game features, identifying bugs, and reporting issues in clear detail. You'll work closely with developers and other QA team members to ensure game quality and a positive user experience. Interns often participate in daily stand-up meetings, follow test plans, and may be asked to suggest improvements based on their findings. This role provides valuable exposure to the game development lifecycle, and successful interns often gain opportunities to transition into full-time QA or development roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship gaming QA?

To thrive as an Internship Gaming QA, you need a keen attention to detail, basic understanding of game mechanics, and familiarity with game development processes, often supported by coursework or experience in computer science or related fields. Knowledge of bug tracking systems like JIRA, version control tools such as Git, and testing frameworks is typically required. Strong communication, analytical thinking, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for documenting issues and collaborating with developers. These skills ensure high-quality game releases by identifying, reporting, and helping resolve issues efficiently within dynamic project teams.

Job description

Reports to:  Hannah Salecki - QA Manager

Compensation:  Competitive market cash + equity

 About GOLF+

GOLF+ is building the leading platform for off-course golf. What began as the premier VR golf experience is now evolving into a connected ecosystem spanning VR, mixed reality, and simulator golf, serving millions of golfers worldwide.

Since our launch, we’ve had over 2 million downloads and nearly 5 billion shots hit in the game. We are the official VR partner of the PGA TOUR, following investment from strategic partners including Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Brady, Steph Curry, and Mike Trout. We’re moving fast and expanding, and this is an exciting time to join us on our journey to shape the future of off-course golf.

In 2026, our focus is expansion: launching GOLF+ Putting and GOLF+ Sim, while continuing to invest in the long-term VR vision.

 Why This Role Exists

GOLF+ is expanding fast from VR into mixed reality and simulator golf  and quality is what keeps millions of golfers trusting the product through that growth. This role will be our only in-office QA presence, primarily responsible for our simulator initiatives, and will work directly alongside engineering in Austin to give the team a fast, physically-present feedback loop.

 The Role

Serve as the in-office QA presence and simulator POC for the greater team, working directly alongside engineering and leadership in the Austin office

Spend extended, hands-on time testing our simulator technology hitting real golf balls with real clubs into a net or screen as a core, daily part of the job

Regularly step in on the VR/MR side of testing, executing test plans alongside our QA team

Partner with engineers and product in person to reproduce, clarify, and verify fixes

Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospective sessions

 What You’ll Own

Executing structured test plans across simulator, VR, and mixed reality builds (End-to-end, feature, integration, and regression testing)

Identifying, documenting, and flagging bugs with clear repro steps and supporting evidence (logs, captures, device info)

Triaging and prioritizing the bug list, driving issues through to verified-fixed

Validating new features, re-test old features, and ensure hardware compatibility before each release

Utilizing AI tools to accelerate testing workflows - generating test cases from requirements, triaging bugs, and streamlining reporting

Running regression suites during major platform transitions, including cross-build comparisons

 What We’re Looking For

Required

  • You are a golfer! You have a love and a feel for the game.
  • Able and willing to hit real golf balls, with real golf clubs, into a net or a screen, repeatedly. This is an essential function of the job.
  • Must be based in, or able to relocate to, Austin, TX, and work fully in-office
  • 1–3 years of experience in QA/testing, including at least one shipped game or interactive product
  • Work with a high degree of day-to-day independence, reporting to a remote QA Manager
  • Ability to work hands-on with VR/MR/Sim hardware and headsets for extended periods of time

Nice to Have

  • Experience testing games in VR/MR
  • Experience with testing software through engine or platform migration
  • Ability to create tools through AI or personal programming experience
Why Join GOLF+
  • Build alongside a team backed by the PGA TOUR and golf-and-sports icons including Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Brady, Steph Curry, and Mike Trout.

  • A role that grows with you in scope and impact.
