Takeoff Technician

Watson Civil Construction, Inc. is a heavy/highway contractor specializing in FDOT projects, large site infrastructure, underground, and road work with more than 300 employees working throughout Florida. We are a dynamic and growing company seeking a Takeoff Technician to join our estimating team in our Tampa or Jacksonville/St. Augustine, FL office. This position is ideal for someone looking to build a career in estimating and civil construction, supporting senior estimators and project teams in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description

The Takeoff Technician will assist the estimating team by performing accurate quantity takeoffs and supporting proposal preparations for heavy civil and roadway projects. This position will focus on data entry, plan review, and organization of estimating materials to help ensure complete and accurate cost estimates.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, and roadway items using company software.
  • Assist in organizing bid documents and maintaining project files.
  • Input and update data into estimating and takeoff software (HCSS, Agtek, Bluebeam).
  • Coordinate with estimators to verify quantities, material requirements, and subcontractor inputs.
  • Support the gathering and organization of supplier and subcontractor quotes.
  • Help maintain standardized takeoff templates and historical quantity databases.
  • Learn and apply estimating principles under the guidance of senior estimators.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in construction, civil engineering, or related field preferred (internship or field experience accepted).
  • Familiarity with reading civil construction plans and performing basic measurements.
  • Experience with takeoff or design software (Agtek, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, HCSS, or similar) is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Motivated to learn and grow in the construction estimating field.

Education

  • Associate degree or coursework in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent experience considered.
