Job description

Job Tittle: Laboratory Technician

Location: Riviera Beach, FL 33404

Duration: Full Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform standardized laboratory and field tests on asphalt, soils, and concrete materials in accordance with FDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.
  • Collect, label, and transport material samples from job sites and plant locations for testing.
  • Conduct density, gradation, moisture content, proctor, Marshall, and compressive strength tests, among others.
  • Document test results accurately and prepare daily inspection and laboratory reports.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and inspect laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist senior inspectors and engineers with QC/QA activities on active construction projects.
  • Enter test data into FDOT systems (e.g., LIMS, MAC) and project management software.
  • Identify and report any deviations, non-conformances, or quality concerns to the project team.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental compliance requirements on-site and in the lab.
  • Support multiple concurrent projects as required, with potential for field assignments across Florida.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or technical degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 0–3 years of experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work; entry-level candidates with relevant coursework or internships are encouraged to apply.
  • Basic knowledge of FDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM testing standards is a plus.
  • Current or in-progress CTQP certifications preferred (e.g., Concrete Field Testing Technician, Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I, Asphalt Paving Level I).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); familiarity with FDOT MAC or LIMS systems is a strong plus.
  • Strong attention to detail with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in outdoor/plant environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods in outdoor environments.
  • Comfortable working in high-heat environments, including asphalt plant and field settings.
