Job Description
Overall Purpose and Objective of Position
Operate container lift and terminal tractor truck. Remove, store and setup twist locks on containers, assist service maintenance mechanic with maintenance and/or repairs of intermodal/equipment at a rail ramp, and general facility maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Operate primary and/or secondary lift.
  • Operate tractor truck within LDCTL terminal facility.
  • Assist in empty and loaded train write-ups.
  • Unlock and remove twist locks from containers on rail cars to allow container de-ramp, place, and lock twist locks on containers to support export train loading and ensure proper storage of twist locks that remain.
  • Help the Service Maintenance Mechanic with equipment maintenance, clean-up and assist in the shop as needed under the direction of Service Maintenance Mechanic.
  • Notify Lead Yard Operator of need for repairs to equipment.
  • Verify container pool integrity by performing container counts.
  • Perform daily inspection of equipment prior to operation.
  • Take orders from Lead Yard Operator.
  • Work on job list for the day.
  • Routine maintenance of the facility (yard, fencing, lighting, office building, repair shop & parts room).
  • Follow all LDC SH&E policies and practices.
  • Perform OTIS OSHA training annually.
  • Perform all related responsibilities as required.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver license (CDL preferred).
  • Must be fluent in English required.

Experience
One (1) to three (3) years' experience operating Top lift or similar equipment preferred but not required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
  • Heavy equipment operational skills preferred but not required.
  • Job requirements include standing, walking, sitting, use of hands to finger, to handle and feel objects, tools, or controls. Must be able to reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Also have the ability to speak and hear.
  • Required to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities are required. These include good close and distance vision, color, and peripheral vision. Good depth perception and the ability to focus are necessary.

  • Perform daily inspection of equipment prior to operation.
  • Report any malfunction and/or maintenance that the assigned equipment may need.
