Familiarity with tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, and data visualization platforms like Tableau is often required. What types of projects do data interns typically work on during their internship?

Data interns often support teams by working on real-world projects such as data cleaning, organizing large datasets, and assisting in data analysis using tools like Excel, Python, or SQL. Description

Moser Consulting is seeking a motivated Data Visualization Intern to join our Data Intelligence practice for the Fall Semester (dates flexible). You will be embedded in an active consulting delivery team supporting clients, and your key project will be participating in an enterprise-scale migration from Tableau to Microsoft Power BI. This is a hands-on, project-based internship — you will contribute to real client deliverables alongside experienced consultants across multiple engagements.

Our delivery teams are intentionally diverse in background, industry experience, and skillset. You will learn to collaborate across those differences, communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Role Responsibilities
  • Migration & Development
    • Audit and catalog existing Tableau workbooks, data sources, and calculated fields to inform migration planning
    • Rebuild Tableau dashboards and reports in Power BI, preserving business logic and visual intent
    • Translate Tableau-specific features (LOD expressions, sets, parameters) into equivalent Power BI / DAX constructs
    • Assist with data model design in Power BI, including star schemas, relationships, and row-level security
    • Document migration decisions, known limitations, and field mapping crosswalks
  • Quality & Testing
    • Validate migrated reports against source Tableau outputs to ensure data accuracy and visual parity
    • Support UAT (user acceptance testing) by coordinating with client stakeholders and tracking feedback
    • Identify and escalate discrepancies or data quality issues through proper project channels
  • Team Collaboration & Delivery
    • Participate in daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives as part of an agile delivery cadence
    • Collaborate with consultants running parallel workstreams across multiple client projects
    • Contribute to internal knowledge bases, migration playbooks, and reusable Power BI templates
    • Support client training and change management materials (tip sheets, short-form guides)
Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with Tableau (academic projects, coursework, or personal use accepted)
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Power BI or a demonstrated eagerness to learn it quickly
  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying and exploring relational data
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers, formulas, and data logic
  • Ability to manage tasks across multiple workstreams and meet deadlines in a team environment
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills
  • Prior internship or project experience in a professional environment
  • Proficiency in Excel , SQL, or Python for data wrangling and analysis
