Job description

Overview

As an Environmental Compliance Intern at our I-105 Express Lanes project, you will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge and training in a real-world setting.  You will support the Environmental Compliance team in implementing the company's environmental compliance program on a variety of exciting construction projects.  Partnering with senior field leaders, you will monitor construction activities, aid in site inspections, prepare compliance documentation and reporting, and work with project teams to implement corrective measures as necessary. During your internship, you will gain experience in specialties with the environmental compliance field, including state/local/federal permitting, stormwater, biological, cultural, and paleontological resources.

What you will be doing
  • Assists with implementation of Sustainability Management Plans and associated data tracking
  • Assists with identifying risks at the project site during daily site walks
  • Documents findings, evaluations and inspections using Company prescribed procedures and software. Convey findings and solutions-based compliance options to project team
  • Assist with field work (e.g., groundwater and soil sampling, stormwater sampling, site surveys)
  • Documents, analyzes and reports environmental performance metrics to Supervisor and project teams
  • Conduct research into state, county and municipal regulations related to environmental compliance on construction projects
  • Maintains knowledge of Company's values and strategic plan
  • Support published corporate policies
  • Perform additional assignments per management's direction
What we are looking for
  • Enrolled in Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Biology, or a similar program at an accredited technical college or university preferred
  • Basic understanding of state and federal environmental regulations (NEPA, CEQA, NPDES, etc)
  • Basic understanding of Sustainable Business Practices
  • Must be self-motivated and results oriented
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Must have strong judgment and highly responsible
  • Willingness to work outside on a construction site in a wide-range of climates and environments
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
