Job description

Summary:

The Income Tax Associate is responsible for supporting the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals and businesses. This role requires strong analytical and organizational skills to ensure compliance with tax regulations, assist in audits, and provide accurate documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.


Essential Functions

  • Assist with the preparation of workpapers for federal and state corporate and shareholder tax returns.
  • Assist in preparation of income tax provisions
  • Assist with review of federal and state corporate and shareholder tax returns.
  • Assist with preparation and filing of unclaimed property reports and related functions.
  • Organize and maintain tax records and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct basic tax research and stay informed of relevant changes in tax laws and regulations.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from tax authorities, including gathering data for audits.
  • Support the tax team in calculating estimated tax payments and extensions.
  • Maintain compliance calendars and track filing deadlines.
  • Communicate with internal departments to gather necessary financial information.
  • Participate in process improvements and identify opportunities for efficiency in tax operations.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Solid understanding of accounting and tax principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, or similar).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in professional development.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in tax preparation or a similar accounting role.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Internship or work experience in a public accounting or corporate tax environment.
  • Master's degree in Accounting
  • Progress toward CPA designation.
  • Familiarity with tax preparation software and electronic filing systems.


Supervisory Responsibility:

This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a laptop, desktop, smartphone, and photocopiers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Essential oils are worn and/or diffused in the work environment.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This position requires the incumbent to be physically present at the assigned worksite. The regular schedule is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an hour lunch, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Employees are also expected to work at least one non-convention farm event a year and to work at the annual company convention.

Exact hour requirements can be reasonably modified as necessary for the business needs by the employee's manager.


Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to type, file, and occasionally lift office supplies up to 20 pounds. The employee must be physically able to tolerate the scent of essential oils worn or diffused.
