Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Planner/Analyst is a junior to mid-level position in the Environmental Planning practice at CSG. The Environmental Planner/Analyst works under the direction of senior environmental planning staff and performs professional services involving project reviews in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Environmental Planner/Analyst has responsibilities for project research, analysis coordination of Exemptions, Initial Studies, (Mitigated) Negative Declarations, EIR's, special study assignments and streamlined environmental reviews. The position also provides opportunities to participate in business development.

The CSG Environmental Planning Practice involves projects throughout the state, providing services to current and new clients, with the wide range of our services for a variety of project types. Our projects are diverse in terms of complexity and levels of study and include residential development at various densities, downtown master plans, infrastructure improvements, policy planning programs, mixed use projects and community facilities in both urban and rural communities. As we continue to grow, you will have a voice in the development of our practice, as we navigate towards new possibilities. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a lead analyst in support of Project Managers, with ongoing and increasing responsibilities in studies, analysis and working with clients.
  • Ensure requirements of CEQA are met by completing analysis and documentation within specific guidelines.
  • Gain practical knowledge of the environmental consulting industry.
  • Provide assistance to Project Managers in the preparation, organization and production of CEQA documents.
  • Incorporate sub-consultant reports and personal research and knowledge into appropriate sections of environmental documents.
  • Communicate with various jurisdictions, agencies and sub-consultants to collect and verify information.
  • Conduct field studies and land use surveys.
  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated capabilities with written and verbal business English, spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task on assignments and to be flexible with the range of assignments.
  • Desires to grow as an environmental planning professional and to learn all aspects of processes and analysis pursuant to the CEQA guidelines.
  • Learn by example by becoming familiar with the types of environmental review and study examples on sites such as CEQAnet.
  • Perform a wide range of duties to help fulfill the environmental services group's growth and development. This may require contributions and roles on proposals, administrative and production assignments.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, Geography, Planning or related field (or in process).
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience or an internship with a government agency or firm in a field related to environmental analysis and reporting.
  • General understanding of the principles and practices of the environmental consulting industry, including CEQA and applicable processing requirements.
  • Technical competence and understanding of the one or more environmental specialties, such as land use, socioeconomics, earth resources, hydrology, air, noise, etc. This would include a general awareness of Appendix G of the CEQA Guidelines.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills and a great desire to grow and learn with each assignment.
  • Background and understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as Adobe a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily office-based and hybrid schedule with occasional travel to client sites and project locations.
  • Working from an office/home or at a client's office location may at times be required.
  • Work productively independently or in a team environment.
  • Occasional overtime work is required throughout the year.
  • Require standing position at workstation for extended periods
  • Require walking, bending, and sitting.
  • Must be able to travel to client sites and/or job sites.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple projects.
