Job description

Position Summary:

Quotient is seeking an entrepreneurial, highly strategic Senior Director of Business Development to lead the company's partnering, asset in-licensing, and market intelligence activities. Reporting to the CFO, this individual will play a critical role in shaping the company's portfolio and business strategy, identifying external opportunities, and executing partnerships that create significant value for the company and its stakeholders.

The ideal candidate combines strong scientific and commercial judgment with demonstrated transaction leadership and the ability to operate effectively in an early-stage, fast-paced, resource-constrained environment. This person will be equally comfortable evaluating an external asset, developing a market landscape, engaging with potential partners, and working cross-functionally with R&D, clinical, regulatory, and executive leadership.

We are looking for someone with a proven track record in Business Development within the biotech or pharmaceutical sectors with significant experience leading collaboration and in-licensing deals and demonstrated strategic thinking and relationship building experience. On a personal level, Quotients enjoy a fast-paced environment, think like entrepreneurs, are adaptable, accountable, work proactively and look out for each other.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company's scientific, clinical, and corporate objectives
  • Identify, evaluate, and cultivate relationships with potential pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, and other strategic partners
  • Lead commercial partnership opportunities from initial identification and diligence through valuation, negotiation, deal structuring, and execution
  • Develop compelling partnership materials, including opportunity assessments, strategic rationales, valuation analyses, and executive presentations
  • Build and maintain a strong network across the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries
  • Identify opportunities for co-development, licensing, collaborations, research partnerships, and other strategic transactions
  • Support corporate strategy and financing activities by providing external market and competitive intelligence
  • Lead identification and evaluation of external assets and technologies that could complement or expand the company's internal pipeline
  • Establish systematic processes for sourcing and prioritizing in-licensing opportunities
  • Coordinate cross-functional diligence with scientific, clinical, regulatory, IP, legal, and finance teams
  • Develop business cases and recommendations for investment in external programs
  • Lead negotiations around licensing economics, development responsibilities, milestones, royalties, territories, governance, and other key deal terms
  • Maintain a forward-looking view of emerging technologies, mechanisms, therapeutic approaches, and platform opportunities relevant to the company's strategy
Qualifications:

Essential

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, medicine, business, or a related field; MBA or equivalent business training is a plus
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical business development, corporate strategy, licensing, or a related function
  • Demonstrated experience executing or materially contributing to biopharma partnership and licensing transactions
  • Strong understanding of drug development and the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience evaluating external therapeutic assets and conducting cross-functional diligence
  • Demonstrated ability to perform or oversee market, competitive, and commercial analyses for drug development programs
  • Strong financial and analytical capabilities, including familiarity with asset valuation, deal economics, forecasting, and scenario analysis
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong scientific and strategic judgment, with the ability to rapidly assess complex information and make clear recommendations
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with senior executives and external partners across the biopharma ecosystem
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to work hands-on in an early-stage environment
Values and Behaviors:
  • Encourage respectful disagreement and cultivate open-minded, ego-free interactions to continuously push each other towards excellence
  • Seek out diverse perspectives; practice active listening and genuine curiosity to ensure all contributions are valued, regardless of source
  • Recognize the impact of your behavior, language and attitudes, and strive for balanced, meaningful exchanges that enhance mutual growth and understanding in all interactions
  • Use a company-first mindset to guide decision-making; prioritize team over individual success
  • Take calculated risks and challenge convention in the quest for exceptional outcomes
