Biomedical Science Instructor
Salem High School Career and Technical Education Center (CTE)
Salem High School's Career and Technical Education Center is seeking a dynamic Biomedical Science Instructor for this outstanding, laboratory-based program. This two-year program prepares students for high-demand careers in medicine, genetics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and biomedical engineering by bridging the gap between biology, medicine, and diagnostic technology.
Position Overview
The instructor will lead students through a rigorous, hands-on curriculum in a state-of-the-art lab facility. The role involves facilitating real-world experiences where students use professional-grade tools to diagnose and treat health conditions. Key instructional areas include:
  • Biotechnology Techniques: Protein purification, DNA extraction and manipulation, chromatography, immunology, and recombinant DNA technology.
  • Microbiology & Cell Culture: Aseptic technique, media preparation, microbial genetics, identification, and plant/animal cell culture.
  • Clinical Skills: Simulated phlebotomy, vital sign measurement (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate), and reflex/reaction assessment.
  • Advanced Research: Guiding students through independent, long-term research projects and capstone experiences.

Program Highlights
  • Academic Credit: Completion of Biomedical Science I satisfies the life science graduation requirement. The program also offers Early College credit and 3 college credits in biotechnology.
  • Career Readiness: Students can earn Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs), participate in work-based learning (WBL) experiences, and engage with industry experts through field trips and guest speaking events.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field is required.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of industry experience in a relevant biomedical or biotechnology field.
  • Certification: Candidates must be eligible for Alternative Certification in the State of New Hampshire (Alternative 4).
  • State Standards: The instructor must align curriculum with NH CTE competencies and federal Perkins V standards.
  • Safety: Must demonstrate and supervise the safe and proper use of all laboratory tools and equipment.
