Summary

Product Development Engineer is responsible for R&D projects, New Product Development initiatives, and Product Change execution. This includes conceptualizing, prototyping and designing new products. ย Evaluation and selection of materials, physical concept modeling and prototyping, evaluation of designs and products, verification, and supporting validation activities. PDE is responsible for converting design inputs into design outputs and ensuring design outputs meet input requirements.

PDE is responsible for documenting and communicating Designs, Requirements, Implementing Risk Mitigation Strategies and other Specifications in Design History Files (DHF) to support the transition from Development into Production. This includes CAD designs, material specifications, product requirement communication, preliminary sourcing support, and Design Review Meetings.

  • Ability to create prototype drawing utilizing CAD tools
  • Conceptualize new product ideas, and build models
  • Originate concepts and provide visuals for design ideas
  • Identify project tasks and report on project status
  • Identify materials and components for prototypes and products
  • Design and fabricate models and prototypes
  • Develop test methods and support testing of materials, prototypes, and products
  • Perform verification testing and support validation activities
  • Write Technical reports including documenting product designs, specifications, and test reports
  • Perform Risk Analysis, including DFMEA
  • Support documentation of Design Review Meetings and DHF definition
  • Support operations through preliminary sourcing, process identification, product requirement definition and interpretation, and quality control criteria
  • Analyze existing products and competitive products to identify areas for improvement and innovation
  • Define and manage testing and prototyping equipment as needed
  • Support project, material, and product cost estimation
  • Innovate and identify new product and product lifecycle opportunities
  • Support visioning and ideation processes and product development roadmaps
  • All other duties, as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • Product development experience preferred
