Supervisor: Executive Director, The Astros Foundation
Classification: Full-Time/Exempt
The Houston Astros is seeking a Senior Manager for the Astros Youth Academy that will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and community-based activities of the Astros Youth Academy and Astros Foundation. Additionally, this role will lead the AYA softball program including but not limited to training its part-time staff and players.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Lead all softball coaches at Academy to ensure consistency of basic softball fundamentals at all levels guaranteeing that hitting, pitching, fielding, bunting, base running, and all fundamentals are to be identical to those taught at the professional level.
- Assist with the selection of players with appropriate Academy Teams during the season, as well as with Academy Instructional League teams.
- Coordinate all field activities and organize the schedule for Academy softball instruction.
- Support and administer all coaches and players clinics.
- Assist with coaching Academy softball teams in Academy related tournaments and/or leagues.
- Serve as a potential lead instructor at Academy Camps and Clinics for coaches and players.
- Develop, implement and manage performance evaluations of coaches and trainers to ensure continuous improvement, professional growth and program excellence.
- Design and facilitate education initiatives for AYA and for other community youth members to enhance community engagement.
- Support Astros Foundation activations and events as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director or Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or educational/work equivalent in Sports Management, Education or other closely related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in sports/recreation, communications, event planning, customer service, non-profit or related field.
- High level of demonstrated professionalism and integrity.
- Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with co-workers as well as members of the community, organizations, sponsors, instructors, players and coaches.
- Strong communication, time management and organizational skills. Proven ability to multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines.
- Basic computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products and standard office equipment.
- Exceptional written and verbal skills; public speaking experience is required.
- Knowledgeable in all facets of baseball and softball, including instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with different personalities in a fast-paced environment.
- University/college experience as a player, coach or instructor is a plus.
Supervisor Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for the management of a team of individuals and providing guidance and career development. The team may consist of full-time and part-time staff, interns and volunteers from other organizations.
Work Environment
This position operates in an office and park/stadium environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment. This position will work in various weather conditions including, but not limited to, heat, cold, rain and sunny environments.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs. Ability to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including; extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Travel
