Job Summary
The Associate Coach, Men's Baseball, serves as the lead assistant to the Head Coach and assists in the administration of all aspects of the NCAA Division I Men's Baseball program. Responsibilities include advanced coaching instruction, player development, recruiting coordination, program operations, student-athlete support, fundraising, and compliance. The position provides leadership within the coaching staff and assists the Head Coach in achieving competitive success while promoting academic achievement, student-athlete welfare, and compliance with NCAA, Southland Conference, Texas State University System, and Lamar University rules and regulations.
Essential Job Functions
Coaching, Player Development, and Competitive Performance:
  • Serves as a lead assistant coach in planning and conducting practices, competitions, and player development activities.
  • Develops and implements position-specific training programs designed to improve individual and team performance.
  • Assists with game preparation, scouting reports, opponent analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Provides leadership and instruction to student-athletes in skill development, performance improvement, and competitive preparation.
  • Assists in evaluating team performance and implementing corrective strategies throughout the season.

Recruiting and Talent Evaluations:
  • Assists the Head Coach in developing and executing the program's recruiting strategy.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recruits prospective student-athletes capable of succeeding academically and athletically.
  • Coordinates recruiting communications, evaluations, campus visits, and recruiting events.
  • Develops relationships with high school coaches, junior college coaches, travel-ball organizations, and recruiting networks.
  • Ensures all recruiting activities comply with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.

Program Administration and Staff Leadership:
  • Assists with oversight of daily baseball program operations, including travel, scheduling, equipment, camps, and operational planning.
  • Provides leadership and direction to assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and student workers as assigned.
  • Assists with management of designated portions of the program budget under the direction of the Head Coach and Athletics Department leadership.
  • Coordinates assigned administrative projects and operational initiatives.
  • Assists with maintaining compliance with NCAA, Southland Conference, Texas State University System, and Lamar University policies and procedures.

Fundraising, Community Engagement, and External Relations:
  • Participates in fundraising, donor cultivation, alumni relations, camps, clinics, and community outreach activities.
  • Represents the baseball program through public appearances, recruiting events, speaking engagements, and media activities as assigned.
  • Assists with promotional activities that enhance the visibility and support of the baseball program.

Student Athlete Support and Institutional Representation:
  • Demonstrated ability to support student-athlete welfare and academic success, leadership development, and graduation success.
  • Serves as a mentor and resource for student-athletes while fostering a culture of accountability and sportsmanship.
  • Promotes the mission and standards of Lamar University and the Athletics Department through professional conduct and leadership.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree.
Three (3) years of NCAA Division I coaching experience or equivalent professional baseball coaching experience.
Demonstrated experience in recruiting, player development, and program operations.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required.
Experience coordinating multiple aspects of a collegiate baseball program.
Desired Qualifications:
Master's Degree.
Experience serving as a lead assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level.
Demonstrated success in recruiting and developing student-athletes.

  • This position requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and other physical activity associated with coaching and athletic event participation.
  • The position may require lifting to 50 pounds while performing the essential functions as described within the essential job functions.

Job Conditions:
  • Duties are performed within athletics facilities, offices, training facilities, and outdoor athletic venues, including frequent evening, weekend, holiday, and travel responsibilities associated with practices, competitions, recruiting, camps, and fundraising activities.
