Job description

Summary: 

  • This candidate will have the honor of joining and ever improving division II baseball program at D'Youville University. The Assistant Coach will have the opportunity to develop and grow the program from year to year through refining and enhancing the culture, tradition, and expectations of all athletic programs at D'Youville.
  • Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for the supporting of a competitive baseball program within NCAA guidelines and D'Youville. General tasks include all aspects of managing and coaching a collegiate baseball program.
  • Responsibilities: 
  • Contribute to the educational mission of D'Youville by offering leadership that reflects D'Youville Athletics commitment to excellence, integrity, and respect.
  • Assist and collaborate with head coach in planning and executing training session, strategies and game day plans.
  • Work on skill development sessions for individual players, focusing on technique, strength, conditioning and overall performance.
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting talented athletes through attending games, tournaments and recruitable events.
  • Analyze opponents and assist in developing game plans, strategies and tactics through film review with head coach, positional groups or one on one film sessions.
  • Support administrative tasks to help with duties such as scheduling, organizing travel arrangements, equipment orders and team meals and supervision of players on the road
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Plan and participate community engagement through outreach programs and activities to promote the team and engage with local organizations.
  • Continue to learn and stay up to date with latest skill and coaching techniques, trends and methodologies through professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate with athletic administration on eligibility requirements to ensure full compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic performance and utilizes campus resources to assist in student athlete academic progress.
  • Maintain a positive and constructive working relationship with support staff in athletic communications, athletic training, facilities, compliance, admissions, and athletic advancement, to assist in implementation of an efficient and effective program and department.
  • Collaborate with head coach to develop annual goals for the program.
  • Become an advocate and expert of the D'Youville mission, community, and academic standards on and off campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required
  • Valid Driver's License is required

Experience:

  • Collegiate playing or one year experience coaching baseball, at the collegiate level is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of coaching/team supervision, the ability to effectively coordinate recruiting activities, and the ability to maintain team discipline and instill proper ethical and moral standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques to effectively create and establish program culture.
  • Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.

Pay: $30,000 - $35,000 Annually
