Job description

General Statement of Duties:
The assistant coach provides instructional, administrative, and recruiting support services under the direction of the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
  • Assists the Head Coach in the implementation of sport training through teaching and instructing the student-athletes in the rules and fundamentals of baseball.
  • Under the direction of the Head Coach, assists in providing sport skill instruction, assists in the conduct of practice sessions, performs game related duties, and motivates players to give their best efforts.
  • Contributes to recruiting efforts through on-campus visits and off-campus evaluation.
  • Supports team fundraising initiatives.
  • Mentors student athletes.
  • Demonstrates sincere interest in the personal, academic and athletic success of the student-athlete.
  • Represents the University in a positive manner at all times.
  • Abides by all SLIAC and NCAA rules and regulations.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities*
  • Assisting other coaches in the department with game management duties.
  • May supervise student assistants and/or student managers.

Functional/Technical Skills*
  • Demonstrated baseball coaching knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills.
  • General knowledge of NCAA Division III rules.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in coaching baseball or other related baseball activities.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the university community and the public.
  • Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence.
