Job description

Greenfield Engineering, a Saalex Company is seeking a Junior Surveillance Systems Engineer in Patuxent River, MD. The Junior Surveillance Systems Engineer supports the integration, testing, and evaluation of airborne surveillance systems across Naval Aviation platforms. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the incumbent assists with engineering analysis, certification support activities, and technical documentation related to surveillance technologies such as ADSโ€‘B, Mode S, and traffic alert and collision avoidance systems.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $65k-$95k annually (depending on experience)
Work Location: Hybrid remote/in-office. (see onsite requirements below)

**On-site Requirements: This position requires the ability to work onsite at Patuxent River, MD 60%+ of the time.

Essential Functions:

Surveillance Systems Support

    • Assist in the evaluation and integration of airborne surveillance systems, including:
      • ADSโ€‘B (Out/In)
      • Mode S transponders
      • TCAS and related systems
    • Support analysis of system behavior, interfaces, and interoperability

Certification & Compliance Support

    • Assist in certification activities, including:
      • Reviewing requirements and design documentation
      • Supporting verification and validation (V&V) tasks
      • Contributing to certification documentation
    • Gain familiarity with airworthiness processes and compliance requirements

Systems Engineering Support

    • Support systems engineering activities such as:
      • Requirements review and basic analysis
      • Test support and documentation review
      • Interface and integration support

Test & Evaluation Support

    • Assist with laboratory, ground, and flight testing activities
    • Support collection and analysis of test data

Technical Documentation

    • Assist in preparing engineering documentation, including:
      • Test reports
      • Analysis summaries
      • Certification support artifacts

Team Collaboration

    • Work within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)
    • Coordinate with engineers, developers, and program stakeholders
    • Other duties as assigned or required

Requirements

Required:

  • Basic understanding of avionics or aerospace systems
  • Exposure to surveillance systems concepts (ADSโ€‘B, transponders, or collision avoidance systems)
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals
  • Familiarity with:
    • Verification & validation (V&V) concepts
    • Engineering documentation processes
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to learn and apply technical concepts in a structured environment

Desired:

  • Academic, internship, or military experience supporting aviation systems
  • Exposure to DoD or Naval Aviation environments
  • Familiarity with FAA or aviation regulatory concepts

Education/Years of Experience:

Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field and 0โ€“3 years (internships/co-ops applicable).

Security Clearance:

Active Secret clearance required. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
