About the Department:
Welcome to the Division of Elementary, Literacy, and Secondary Education (ELS)! ELS comprises the Elementary Education , Health and Physical Education , Reading/Literacy Education , and Secondary Education programs. We offer a wide range of degree and licensure opportunities for beginning and experienced educators in grades PK-12. Choices include initial preparation as a teacher in elementary education (PK-6), secondary education (middle and high school subjects), physical education, foreign language education, or English as a Second Language (ESL). We also support advanced preparation for teacher leaders through our Reading Specialist program as well as advanced coursework across a range of specializations for students in the CEHD PhD in Education program .
About the Position:
The Division of Elementary, Literacy, and Secondary (ELS) Education and the Secondary Education (SEED) program in the George Mason University College of Education and Human Development invite applications from highly qualified adjunct faculty to teach an array of undergraduate and graduate courses in Math Education, including "Teaching Math in the Secondary School," "Advanced Methods of Teaching Math in the Secondary School," and "Internship in Secondary Education: Math."
Beginning with the Spring 2025 semester, the SEED program and ELS division have a high level of need for instructors with coursework and professional experience in math instructional and assessment methods. The SEED program at GMU is a state-approved initial licensure program and offers in-person and hybrid courses.
Responsibilities:
  • Teaches an array of undergraduate and graduate courses in Math Education, including:
    • Teaching Math in the Secondary School;
    • Advanced Methods of Teaching Math in the Secondary School; and
    • Internship in Secondary Education: Math.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D./Ed.D. in Math Education or a related field for graduate level instruction;
  • Master's in Math Education or a related field for undergraduate level instruction;
  • Content and/or professional expertise that matches courses in the SEED program (e.g., explicit experience in math instruction and assessment and/or math methods instruction and assessment); and
  • In addition to a current curriculum vita, applicants must submit evidence of successful teaching from a recently taught course at the university level or a letter of recommendation reflecting potential for successful teaching at the university level.
