Job description

Job Description One Tech Engineering is looking for a Substation Technician for a position located near Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Substation Technician will service and test transformers, relays, breakers, switches, and other electrical apparatus/systems at utility substations and industrial facilities. The candidate must be a US Citizen or a green card holder, the position is not eligible for sponsorship.

The candidate should have an Associate's degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience. Local candidates preferred. This is not a remote position.

Substation Technician Responsibilities: Ground grid testing, medium voltage cable testing. Troubleshoot and test control circuits, communications systems, protections systems and other electrical apparatus. Perform breaker and relay retrofits.

Ability to read prints and control/protection schemes. Complete and submit reports accurately and timely. All other duties as assigned by management.

Applying test procedures for various types of relay test equipment. Substation awareness and Safety consciousness. Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment.

Performs testing on low and medium voltage breakers including Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, Hi-Current, and Timing tests. Testing on power transformers including Power Factor, TTR, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance. Completes mechanical work and repairs on breakers including wiring, painting, parts replacement.

Utilizes and accurately reads meters. Reading and plotting curves. Requirements for the Substation Technician: Associate's degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience.

Experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician. Proficiency with high voltage test equipment as well as knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment. Proficient computer and phone skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Ability to work a flexible schedule based on client/customer needs. Valid driver's license. Effective communication skills.

Extensive travel; up to 5 days/week with overnights possible. On call duty is required approximately six times per year. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, crawling, and reaching frequently.

Aerial work may sometimes be necessary, such as working on ladders or scaffolding.
