Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician to join our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL. This facility specializes in the inert fabrication and assembly of large composite rocket motor hardware.

Essential Functions:

  • Produce parts, components, and final assemblies using composite fabrication, compression molding, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, rework, quality testing, and assembly, following detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, layouts, and manufacturing or diagnostic equipment.
  • Prepare components for lay-up, filament winding, cure, and post-cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
  • Operate a variety of machinery and shop equipment, which may include ovens, autoclaves, manual and CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, manual mills, boring mills, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, swages, paint booths, fume hoods, and overhead cranes.
  • Fabricate and assemble piece parts into completed sub-assemblies using standard assembly tools.
  • Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for the fabrication and curing of composite parts.
  • Execute structural bonding operations using film adhesives, core materials, and adhesives.
  • Build complex layups independently and in small teams.
  • Build, clean, and properly store large tooling.
  • Apply insulation to mandrels and composite cases.
  • Cast, cure, and machine sand mandrels.
  • Provide on-the-job training (OJT) to technicians as required.
  • Work closely with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
  • Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
  • Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify, or escalate outofcontrol processes and production escapes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing process improvement initiatives within the facility.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, supervision, and engineering on equipment setup and calibration.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance activities.
  • Clean machines, equipment, and work areas per Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support safety initiatives and adhere to 5S+1 standards.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/associate's degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
