Nippon Seiki North America ("NSNA"), a group company of Nippon Seiki, located in Auburn Hills, MI, is a tier one supplier of instrument clusters and head-up display units for FCA US, General Motors, BMW, Honda, Harley Davidson, Suzuki, Polaris, Arctic Cat and other OEM's.

Purpose of Job

The International Trade Compliance Lead is responsible for the development of a comprehensive international trade compliance program ensuring NSNA policies and practices adherence to local, state, federal, and international trade regulations. The individual is responsible for oversight of the accuracy of import/export documentation submitted by NSNA suppliers, including brokers on NSNA's behalf, as well as NSNA companies. Duties will also include the improvement of processes, auditing policy compliance, tracking effectiveness of current policies, coordination with external brokers, and coordinating with Customs or other government officials.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

  • Correspond with foreign vendors/customers and NSNA Purchasing, to obtain necessary information and documentation during new product set up to ensure NSNA locations can comply with supply chain security and timely customs clearance of import and export transactions.
  • Ensure NSNA entities maintain and file import, export, and supply chain security compliance records in accordance with governmental regulations and internal policies.
  • Prepare responses to Governmental Customs requests in a timely fashion.
  • Develop and Lead NSNA Policies related Supply Chain Security, Trade Compliance, and other related activities.
  • Lead Customs Compliance and Supply Chain Security training across NSNA sites.
  • Oversee accuracy of Country of Origin (COO), HTS code designation & other trade agreement data submissions.
  • Audit NSNA import, export, and Supply Chain Security documentation and processes for accuracy and policy/governmental compliance.
  • Audit selected vendors for Supply Chain Security and NSNA International Trade Compliance policy requirements
  • Provide project-specific customs expertise to internal customers.
  • Maintain and distribute performance reports to provide awareness and measure effectiveness of import, export, and supply chain security compliance programs.
Education, Experience and Knowledge

Required and/or preferred level of education, knowledge and skills that are necessary.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Brokers License, preferred. 
Related Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience (10+ years preferred) in the automotive industry.
  • Experience demonstrating effective leadership, directly or in-directly, for multi- disciplinary teams is required. 
  • Work requires strong customer service skills.
  • Work requires strong oral and written communication skills in English, Spanish, a plus.
  • Work requires Microsoft Office knowledge, Intermediate levels of Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Work requires strong analytical skills (i.e., customer and/or supplier release analysis).
  • Able to accommodate calls during off-hours and weekends to ensure customer issues are resolved.
  • Work requires knowledge of current and upcoming trade compliance practices and requirements.

Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5pm. Off-hours as needed.

Hybrid schedule, 2 days onsite / 3 days offsite
