  • Verify subject identities and corroborate material findings across multiple sources; distinguish confirmed fact from unverified allegation and clearly identify the basis for each finding.
  • Identify patterns, anomalies, gaps, and leads within research results, and escalate material or unresolved issues to the Risk Mitigation Research Manager in a timely manner.
  • Research corporate family trees and affiliated entities to support conflicts-of-interest review.
  • Retrieve court documents, dockets, and related filings as needed to support ongoing research and investigations.

Client and Firm Risk Support

  • Support due diligence research on prospective lateral hires.
  • Maintain and update the firm's trading-compliance watch-list database and respond to related watch-list compliance questions.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Synthesize and organize research findings into concise, accurate, and well-sourced written reports and presentation materials for distribution to attorneys, firm leadership, and clients, within the scope, timeline, and budget set for each assignment.
  • Document research methodology and sources with sufficient detail to support source attribution and auditability of findings.
  • Draft high-quality work product for review and use by the Risk Mitigation Research Manager and requesting attorneys.

Collaboration and Process Support

  • Collaborate and communicate professionally with attorneys, firm leadership, and administrative stakeholders at all levels regarding research scope, status, and findings.
  • Contribute ideas for improving research workflows, procedures, and the use of research technology, including firm-approved artificial intelligence tools, under the direction of the Risk Mitigation Research Manager.
  • Assist with current awareness alerts, search requests, and other Knowledge Management tools and resources.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging research resources and databases and support testing or adoption of new tools as directed by the Risk Mitigation Research Manager.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support special projects such as collection development, as assigned.
  • Bill time for reference and research assistance in accordance with established firm methods and practices.
  • Provide backup support for other Risk Mitigation and Knowledge Management team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; equivalent education and work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in public-records investigations, investigative due diligence, business intelligence, legal research, conflicts, or other related risk-management research, preferably within a law firm, corporate investigations firm, or professional services environment.
  • Experience working in an Am Law 100 or Am Law 200 law firm or other large professional services organization preferred.
  • Experience supporting lateral-hire due diligence, new-business intake, conflicts, or international/cross-border research preferred.

  • Experience using AI-assisted research tools or analytics platforms preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of public-records and investigative research databases and tools, such as Westlaw PeopleMap, LexisNexis Accurint, TLO, IDI Core, PACER and state court portals, Secretary of State and SEC filings, and sanctions/watchlist and news sources, or comparable equivalents.
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with sound judgment and close attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate, and well-organized written reports under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with strong client-service orientation.
