Description:

Established Malibu-based artist with an international presence is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Studio Manager/Photographer to oversee studio administration, professionally photograph artworks, manage gallery and collector relations, and assist with the planning and implementation of marketing and sales strategies. 

The ideal candidate possesses ample experience working in the contemporary art world, particularly in an administrative or sales capacity at a commercial gallery or artist studio. They should be familiar with standard industry practices and be minimally conversant about art and the technical aspects of sculpture. Additionally, the ideal candidate should possess some experience with artwork photography and digital re-touching.

Responsibilities:

  • Professionally documenting artwork
  • Managing artwork database (Artlogic), ensuring artwork records and Private View links are accurate and up-to-date and new work is added in a timely manner.
  • Processing payroll and vendor payments
  • Tracking studio expenses and income
  • Generating consignments, invoices, and inventory reports
  • Corresponding with galleries and collectors to provide information about available artwork, coordinate shipments, and facilitate sales
  • Periodically updating artist's website, CV, and bio
  • Communicating with bookkeeper to ensure studio remains compliant with federal and state tax requirements and business regulations
  • Researching potential opportunities for new gallery relationships and large-scale commissions

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience in an administrative or sales position, preferably at an established gallery, art advisory, artist's studio, or similar
  • Experience with artwork photography, including light set up, using a color checker, and editing from RAW files
  • Knowledge of industry best practices
  • Experience using an artwork database system such as Artlogic or Artbase
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for contemporary art
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Mac OS, and website builders such as Wix
